Never saw street fighter but MK legitimately has great sets and choreography. The script, actors, and story are not phenomenal or anything but they fit what the movie is trying to be and don’t distract from what makes the movie entertaining- besides the stupid water is the element of life bullshit.
It also has great music

Well, it helps that MK follows the game's story surprisingly close (Scorpion's and Sub Zero's lack of rivalry aside). SF... not so much. It's telling that a lot of modern MK lore originated in the movie (Liu Kang/Kitana romance, Sonya/Johny romance, Raiden being a mentor, Kano baing an Aussie).

Mk is a legitimate goat martial arts movie up there with enter the dragon and drunken master

Mortal Komat was the only movie I waited in a huge line to see that stretched around the theater.i liked it but I wasn't a big fan of the games and never owned one.street fighter was pretty gay.

They're both good in their own rights. MK is a good adaptation and mostly faithful.
SF leaned too hard on humor and on having EVERY character on-screen, making absolute nothingburgers out of Blanka and Dalhsim

MK is a good martial arts film and fits right in perfectly with others.
SF is very mixed, the raul julia parts are obviously killer with his great performance as bison and he really nails it. There are some other good performances but there is a lot that is just really bad in it as well.
the SF movie has a lot of memorable moments because of this dichotomy so I think its good, many films are like this where they do some really well and the rest poorly and no one holds it against them, was always strange to see it happen to the SF movie.

Mortal Kombat was just dudes fighting from scene to scene, and that's all it ever needed to be as the games were just that. Except it was actually well choreographed and the sounds track and set design were well done.

Both are good. Throw in Double Dragon and Super Mario Bros. All of them are 90s kino.

It's very simple. Paul W.S. Anderson is a very skilled (if relentlessly derivative) director, and a passable writer. Steven E. de Souza is a great screenwriter but a terrible director. That's why Mortal Kombat has held up really well, but Street Fighter is a hot mess with some banger lines.

The casting was spot on though. Back when they actually casted for the character instead of diversity. If it was made today Guile would be black, Balrog indian, Chun Li some mexican chick etc.

Its not a movie, but I think he's a pretty good guy in the recent The Man In The High Castle adaptation. He is very typecast for villain roles, but in fairness he does it very well and has the look for it down pat.
