It's not as hard as you think. Both wo long and ronin are fun (especially ronin, the combat feels very addictive) but I think nioh can definitely provide an experience where you're coming back to it for hundreds of hours when the combat clicks.

Nah it's not that hard. Most of the difficulty will be reduced as you level and gear up. Only some of the DLC bosses are quite tough on first run as you'll face them below the power curve, but even they turn into jokes as you get OP Shit. Nioh is not a very balanced game (and that's a good thing!)

Haven't played Rise of the Ronin but Wo Long was absolute garbage. Maybe you'll like it if you're really into 3K slop.

Yes. Builds aren't really a thing till ng++. You can make a 'build" but bonuses from equipment will be marginal at best that early on. Just equip big number and get better at the game.

Assuming you mean just NG playthrough. Yeas, easily. You also won't get shit from the weak enemies either. Easiest way to gear up is by defeating player phantoms who drop their equipped hear. On launch (and likely to this date) you would see whole slices of the community wearing the exact same equipment, because they picked it up from some early adopter, who farmed/forged a set with good stats. And it spreads like wildfire, since anyone who died after equipping those, would also drop them.

In addition to this, optimising equipment and equipment effects isn't particularly necessary until maybe dream of the nioh (ng+++++). You can run through missions even 100 levels under and if you're good at combat you can scrape by without the game feeling unfair

Why the question mark? In most ARPGs you have to farm specific gear for the entire endgame
Anonymous No.714154494 [Report]

>the entire endgame
As many has noted above, in Nioh endgame doesn't start until after a few NG+ cycles. On your first time playthrough you just pick up random stuff with higher ATK/DEF number that drops and continue on your merry way without even thinking about the whole itemization system. Spreading stats is even beneficial, because it gives you more options.

In nioh the builds aren't game changing till way way down the line as everyone has said. I don't recall putting together an autistic build until I was about to start underworld (100 level dungeon at the end of the final ng cycle). A big draw of nioh for people is freedom to play how you want. You can go all in with the builds and you can just equip the highest level stuff without worrying about effects and just concentrate on getting good with your weapon

They aren't that hard. The biggest hurdle people face with Team Ninja's newer games is trying to play it like a Souls game, but if you try to play more aggressively the games are much easier. Don't wait for an opening to get your hit in, just dive in and dance around the enemy. Kinda similar to Sekiro in that regard, but personally I found Sekiro harder.

I mostly mention it because it's harder to achieve that mastery of when you can attack the enemy while he's doing shit in Nioh
To put it another way, there's loads of parry games that try to emulate Sekiro but fail at the aggression = disabling half the enemy's moveset thing
Take for example Nine Sols, a great game all about parries and it's very fun, but when you attack the boss he just does whatever animation he was gonna do anyway

The reason people find it hard is because it's a mechanics focused game first, and a hardcore action game second.
Your build and your equipment is the main difference between the game being Freddi Fish or Megaman. Using your BRAIN to THINK makes it extremely manageable even if you're not an action god. If you're a lizard brained high speed retard though, then yes, it's going to be considerably more difficult than your typical souls slop.

nioh 1 is a good game but by god does it devolve into cheesing and oneshotting by the end. the massive amount of dual boss fights with low health bosses in the endgame means you either run in a circle and get one hit in (stupid and gay) or stunlock one to death instantly before you can get put in a bad situation.
2's endgame boss gauntlets are both much better balanced and more fun to engage with and individual bosses also have more health so you do have to play around them, but they can still be bursted down extremely quickly if you have good skill/knowledge of game mechanics/good build.
the low enemy variety also hurts the first game especially when 2 has such a good roster of new enemies to add on top of the old ones

Physical guard is always 100%, and you can boost your elemental guard properties through equipment bonuses and such. Especially if you spec into heavy armor. But there are unblockable grab attacks, so unless it's possible to facetank those and stay alive, you'd still have to dodge sometimes.

Perfect block doesn't really do much. I think it might throw human enemies off balance but that's about it. If you manage your ki well it might work but it would be difficult. More so if you don't burst counter since those are unblockable. Same with grabs. Some enemies like hayabusa have ridiculously aggressive strings and will just break your guard regardless. So maybe you can on paper but it wouldn't be fun

short answer no
long answer there are extremely strong parry mechanics in the game (especially opportunist on fists which is strong, flexible, and extremely satisfying), but you absolutely need dodges to move out of AOEs, large moves, spells, elemental damage, grabs, etc. the game is very much built around the mobility of low stance dodges and expects you to use all aspects of your toolkit effectively

>I wanna get into it but I hear it's the hardest game of this type
Not really. Nothing in Nioh is as difficult as say Consort Radahn or Malenia in Elden Ring. You just have to get familiar with the game's own nuances.

For example you're supposed to mix block and dodges to manage your Ki well (block single big attacks, dodge roll long combos). Pic related and the infamous big snek boss teach you to block instead of dodge roll. Spells and Ninjutsu work with Elder Scrolls logic where they level up and get better only by you using them. So actually use them, throw firebombs, use talismans that give you extra Defensive layers or health regen and so on and so forth.
Finally the whole weapon stance thing is not as complicated as it looks. You use High Stance 90% of the game while exploring, Mid Stance when you want to Parry human opponents or easily catch yokai or ninja that dodge to your sides and Low Stance for applying debuff effects, playing it safe with Yokai bosses or killing big monsters who have high HP pools but never block your attacks.

Why the games are fun and why I come back to them every now and then is because thanks to the mission-based system its like a little taste of Souls-exploring and bossfighting whenever you're in the mood but don't feel like starting yet another long game run.

I found myself using pretty much every stance equally without really thinking about it. You kind of flow through stances and combos and react to each enemy.

Cheesing IS the proper way to do things in Nioh. It wouldn't have RPG components, if you were meant to play it by simply pressing attack/dodge at the right times. Those twin bosses are basically gear checks, and you're supposed to do them when you can overpowered both bosses. They're not double boss encounters designed like that from the start. The devs just threw two bosses that share some lore connections into the same arena.

Yeah but you no longer play as half-demon dude. Your super-form now looks like something Raiko had with the same glowing green white color scheme, you also now summon Yokai moves with Raiko's tiny box thing. And instead of them being in a Yokai bar, you use Talismans for them instead, they're effectively spells now.

its a Niohlike
notice the "2" in the title, that indicates it is a sequel

Nioh assraped me at first, but once you get used to the mechanics it's fine.

>Can I make it through the entire game (including DLC) without farming easy enemies for some gear specific to my build?

yeah, but more specifically you can just kill revenant ghosts for their gear until you have some decent stuff for the area, and this process only takes a couple minutes

It's definitely an interesting change with guardian spirit abilities now occupying the role of combo extending/filling skills that yokai skills were used for in 2, and yokai skills now occupying more of a crowd control summon type niche (which can also hint that we'll get more crowd fights instead of 1v1) and I'm interested in seeing what they can do with the concept. I just hope we get more guardian spirit skills. So far it seems limited if you only get 3 per guardian spirit since you can't swap out the 3 skills as much as you could in 2 while still maintaining that one guardian spirit. Do guardian spirit talismans make a return? They seem almost pointless with these changes

>which I didn't get from perfectly dodging through a boss's attack.
i made it satisfying by playing ds2 without adp
its actually so cool having to actually dodge through hitboxes, and enemies track a lot less. now combine that with the big bonk or multihit in question, and its just more satisfying. I was using the dragon roar combined with the insane nuke greatswords by the end of the game, either that or abusing a 4x hit spinning attack on powerstanced swords
i wish more games followed this formula of having to avoid hitboxes, i played this now and i dont understand the hate for this games' fights

there is a pretty clear formula for those games, but these days you have many calling any game where you can swing a sword or dodge a soulslike so it's started to mean nothing

I played it because I heard it was a good souls clone but it literally played nothing like a fucking souls game besides your souls dropping on the floor when you die. I was fucking lied to. The roll has like a 0.01 second iframe meaning you can't roll through anything and you have to block almost everything AND you also get punished like crazy when you run out of stamina unlike souls.

No, it's a diablolike.

It might feel like a soulslike early on (but so would diablo 2) but this is a diablolike because before you hit halfway the game becomes so stupid easy with how retarded powerful you get
