Psikyo wants you to hard memo instead of reading and reacting. It's a bit of a double-edged sword though, because once you know how to dodge these fast spreads you will just do it easily every time without thinking about it.
Hitboxes aren't the entire sprite usually but bigger than something like danmaku games.
