i'm lowkey writing my own hard sci-fi story (just for me and close friends to read) and to make it ultra realistic i researched the history of science etc... to extrapolate how long it would take to have "magic nano materials"
Since 1900 we've been able to shrink our manufacturing techniques by -2.47% per year (today we can easily manifacture things in the 10 nanometers, like Quantum Dots (TVs) or Nanocoating Sprays you can buy at the hardware store)
going at the rate we're able to manipulate matter on the micro dimensional scale, we'll be able to manipulate individual protons/electrons/neutrons (attometer scale or 10^-18 meters) and make our own custom atoms and in the year 3200-3300
and a Type 2 civilization by the year 3500 (type 1 in 2400s)
