Finished SMRPG, for the first time as a 30 year old.

Game was hella mid. Mechanically, it's just not a very interesting RPG, and it's not like the story or characters hold it up either (I mean it's fricking Mario).

I knew this was babby's first RPG for gaijins and it kind of holds up to that reputation.

Mother 1 (Earthbound Zero) is also hella shit with an insane encounter rate and difficulty spikes

Yeah, playing the remake, I was underwhelmed.
Geno is the one good design, the rest of the OC characters look like dogshit. The gameplay is basic, which I get, its baby’s first rpg, but still. Story is very whatever.

/v/ is full of man-children so it’s no surprise. I wouldn’t go as far as you do, there are things to appreciate about both games, but Mario games on the whole are generally really easy. They are made for 10 year olds and you would think a bunch of dudes in their 30’s would be over them.

Literally just finished this yesterday.
And not-fucking-wrong since the only reason I played this over Thousand Year Door is because my babysitter used to play this when he watched us.

Game could definitely use some more quality of life improvements, but then it wouldn't be 'Super Mario RPG.' This is one of the few times I can forgive Nintendo for a low-effort game.

I literally did every bossfight in the game while browsing on my phone and just mashing attack with my other hand, occasionally looking up to pop a m mushroom.

The game is so braindead it's unreal, the item/magic balance is terrible, and it floods you with resources. There is zero incentive for exploration because the game is braindead easy and already gives you so many coins you don't even know what to waste them on
