digimon world
How the fuck did they do it??? They just randomly made the best virtual pet game ever, and somehow no other game can come close to it. Just how?

The 90s were a time when games were made by smart, creative and talented white and Japanese nerds who were allowed to experiment. Sadly, Digimon games now are bottom of the barrel trash made in a cookie cutter fashion that only the most braindead of people buy because of female human and Digimon designs.

it has just the right amount of clunkyness and mystery to it
modern games try to streamline and explain things and they end up worse for it

Because big corps are trying to formulize everything to squeeze the maximum money out of it. But you can't formulize soul, you can't deterministically capture the lightning in a bottle. These guys just got together and casually shat out the best vpet game, such that even they couldn't surpass it.

maybe learn how to raise your vpet, mongoloid.

Something that really helped, is the aesthetic.
Digimon works incredibly well with low-poly models.

>take care of your little baby
>feed it, make sure it's happy, love it
>it turns into numemon
Bros.. It's not fair.
[s]Although I admit that numemon -> teddybear in toytown was the most kino thing I experienced in vidya. I kneeled when I accidentally made it happen when I was a kid, never been so amazed[/s]

Apparently not even they know, since the franchise went down the shitter immediately after.

I rather play the first yugioh game (a virtual pet game)

I remember playing this game and being frustrated at my mon dying like 20mins into the game. I was a retarded kid so I was probably doing something retarded.

that's beyond impossible. it can only be done deliberately so you're lying your ass off

Its only become good as people have learned its quirks.

But something it has over all its modern counter parts is the player speed and the size of the world.

Next order has some neat ideas but it takes so long to walk from point a to point b.

Also i want a spiritual sequal to world 3 that uses the exact overworld. Both next order and cyber slueth dropped the ball hard on world design.

I figured out how to play it when I was 10. It's really not that complicated.

>Both next order and cyber slueth dropped the ball hard on world design.
That, and literally everything else.

I will after they ported it to PC. I'm not spending a couple hundred bucks for a 3ds.

It's so fucking janky and gay playing 3/ds games with split screens. Meanwhile Next Order got a nice 60fps glow up.

Too bad Next Order is a load of railroaded nonsense that just brick was all your progress until you beat the next boss.

Digimon World 1 gave you a lot more freedom.

But the mystery of how it all worked was fun. Most people didn't know wtf they were doing with raising Digimon back then and still loved it

>But the mystery of how it all worked was fun
yes and no. the game could have at least told players that a happy digimon is a long-lived digimon, explained that the reels are worth using despite being rigged, included a poster with elemental affinities and another one with what a care mistake is, etc.
and then there are some flagrant mechanics flaws (all fights count as 1 no matter the enemy count and their evolutionary stage so just keep genociding modokibetamon, the evo priority algorithm is kinda fucked thanks to overlapping evos, chances to learn a tech can be as low as 5% or 0% if the element is your mon's secondar-y or tertiary specialty, etc.)
