And yes, they do still care about consumer rights even if there are bad things happening in the world. What kind of logic is this?
Also, it doesn't matter whether they care or not. Once it passes, they are legally forced to enter the process, and the process will take months or even years whether they personally think there are more important issues or not.
If we weren't able to discuss anything in politics other than the most important pressing issue then every parliament ever would be talking about how there are people who don't have access to drinking water and who starve to death, and nothing else would ever get discussed.
