They completely remade the game three times. The first game was supposed to be Ares. Then they scrapped it and made Great Road which was supposed to be a big compilation game where you manage the original games team. Then it became Victory Road. They are able to include a side mode with all the matches and characters because that was the game they were making for a couple years. The reason why the protagonist is the manager in Victory Road is because he's the same character that was supposed to be in Great Road they just gave him his own team and story.

Now they are just speedrunning changes based on player feedback like how they added 5 more optional characters to the story a month after people complained about how all the side characters were voiced by ecelebs.

In the beta It took them less than a month to completely remake how the critical strike mechanic worked because everyone hated it so much. After their big final trailer event they announced multiple new mechanics in an interview based on their feedback like penalizing you for stalling the game by making the crowd boo which drains your tension gauge. When they announced that each platform would have boosted droprates for certain teams it took two weeks before they changed it to a rotating event and the only difference between platform is what group they start on.

Level 5 is listening players to an insane degree like when they completely changed how the camera worked in fantasy life.
