if you had read the "the animation" novel, you'd know the league is sketchy and corrupt as fuck, with gym leaders barely managing to keep lights on and bribing trainers to win and avoid losing their jobs. along with other gruesome details like the fact that pikachu that evolve and fail to learn to control their electricity shock themselves into cardiac arrest.
