GoW4 has good combat. In that case I'll buy it. I played Zeno Clash 1 a hundred years ago. Is 2 worth playing?

I like the first two Zeno Clash games in an artistic sense (the gameplay was always meh), but this one is really hard to like.
The level design is a bunch of samey looking twisting hallways surrounded by invisible walls. It's so fucking tedious getting anywhere, and the "shortcuts" don't even matter because dying twice throws you back to a previous save (which kind of defeats the point of a souls-like death system).
There's also the usual modern game trappings like unnecessary RPG stats, crafting, and le hecking epic DARK SOULS combat and encounter design.
I liked the writing and art overall, though, it was a little too colorful and Dr. Seuss-y compared to Zeno Clash I & II.

2 is a definite improvement over 1, it's worth playing just for the experience. It's still very much a one-note game gameplay wise.

I've never played zeno clash, but I did pick up this one. I enjoyed Eternal Cylinder from them before, even if I had some issues with how many useless mutations the game had. Should I get any other Zeno Clash games, or just stick with Artifacts of Chaos?

Try 1 to see if the vibe is your kind of thing, then grab 2. They're only really related to Artifacts of Chaos by being in the same "setting", even though theyre hundreds of years apart and that's where the connections end.

Basically this is how I feel about it too. Bought it on Steam originally, hated it, refunded it, saw it was free on PS+ months later, played it, hated it. The characters and the world is cool I just can't stand the gameplay.

I always liked first person beat em ups its not a very common genre, its like breakdown, zeno clash and condemned then that's it.

I think it finally clicked how un-fun the combat was when the game threw me in a tiny area with 2 big guys and 1 small guy. The soft lock on is so dog shit (and the hard lock on isn't nearly as smooth as the Souls games) dodging and attacking was basically a gamble. I had to spend 30 minutes whittling them down. It wasn't even a boss fight, it was just a standard encounter.
