It's hard to recommend RE2 to people that don't have experience with tank controls. The beginning is unforgiving for newcomers.

I have never understood people's problem with tank controls, I always found them intuitive and I ain't the sharpest crayon in the box.

Ever notice how all these kinds of pics never actually show that the player is very far in the game, but literally just started it up so they could take a fashionable picture to post on social media?

Rondo is mid as fuck, why is reddit so obsessed with that fucking stupid game

There's nothing wrong with it if you have time to freely learn it. But you're faced with several zombies a few feet from you at the very beginning. There's no time to learn. It's easy to get frustrated. I think it took me a dozen tries before getting to Kendo's shop when I first played it.

It plays great and has beautiful art and some of the best music of the series, and the branching paths, multiple characters, and brisk playtime make for great replayability
>>714248870
To be fair I had played RE1 before 2 so it wasn't frustrating, it was a very exciting and memorable start

I was gonna recommend getting the sega mega drive collection to play shinning force 1 and 2 but when I looked it up apparently they fucking removed it, the fuck?

From my own experience, many of the "must play" titles are shilled hype. A lot of these are flavors of better things that came later, or ideas that were half-baked and never took off.

Even what I like weren't perfect, but I liked them a lot. PS1 games will be dated af...

Mercenaries
Dark Cloud 2
Soul Caliber 2 (xbox if you can)
Twisted Metal 2
Extermination
Motor Toon Grand Prix
Klonoa 2
MGS1 & 2
Crimson Skies
Matrix: Path of Neo
Kings Field 2
Wild Arms 1-3
Sky Gunner
Tench 2 (3 is good and more "modern")
Tony Hawk's PS3
Grandia 2

If you want to go back farther
Fatal Labyrinth (a great early roguelike)
ActRaiser
Mario Bros 3 (original)

Nothing is essential, though. Tastes have changed so much over the years that what was great has become annoying to zoomers anyway

(stopping at 2010, not really sure what's considered retro)

Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge
Sin & Punishment
RE4 and RE5 (1&2 are good too)
Metal Slug 1&2
StarFox 64
Pikmin 1&2
Ratchet trilogy
Sly trilogy
Crash trilogy (PSX or N.Sane, both are great)
Jak II
MGS3 (1 and 2 are decent, but definitely 3)
Zelda 1/LTTP/LA/OoT/MM/WW
Super Mario Bros (3 and World are kinda boring)
Streets of Rage 2
Paper Mario TTYD
Halo 1-3
Animal Crossing
Rollercoaster Tycoon (OpenRCT2)
Demon's Souls
Ico
Katamari Damacy
Contra/Super C/Hard Corps
Silent Hill 1-3
God of War trilogy
Bioshock
Super Mario Galaxy
Batman Arkham
New Vegas

Shit, forgot pic related
just don't waste your time with the whole game, the first few levels with telepathy and mind control are great, but it shits itself later on and the ending is trash.

The art design is fucking ugly and garish, and the level design is fucking complete nonsense. The game is also clearly unfinished, with absolute dogshit alternate paths that feel unfinished and literal pure mono green backgrounds where they just never put a background in and never tested the game to even notice.
