Was halo inspired in part by starship troopers? I'm thinking of the halo 1 marine in this image but there's more.

Part Starship Troopers, Part Command & Conquer Tiberium Sun, which also reused some of Starship Troopers' props for its FMV.

Basically what >>714262954 said, right up until Reach. Then 343/Halo Studios dropped any pretence of military science fiction and took their inspiration from games like Warframe and Destiny of all things, which I really didn't like.

Not the only people to, as well. I find it cool that they had such a massive surplus that eventually found its way into other shows.

Starship Troopers, Aliens, and probably a few other things.

>that style of helmet
>armor is a big chest piece but regular sleeves
>extra long black rifle
This is just a 1990s US Army soldier painted black

Halo has multiple inspirations, including Starship Troopers, Aliens, Lovecraftian horror, and more.

Why the fuck has there still not been a game that takes the premise of a exosuit/power armor as it was depicted in the Starship Troopers books, and makes the game all about fighting with such a suit. Either we get games with form fitting power armor or just big ass mecha. Nothing in the in between category which is far cooler than either.

Seems like a tricky problem to get right. You make the suits too mech-y and you end up feeling like you're piloting a vehicle, you make them too fluid and it's just an FPS.
Titanfall probably came the closest aside from the scale being way too big, that combination of weighty but still reasonably fluid movement plus all the HUD tricks to sell you on being inside of a cockpit is probably about the right overall feel for an infantry-scale exosuit

Lost Planet? Sort of

But I'm fine with that. An fps where you have missiles and a jetpack and big anti-vehicle weapons and all sorts of special abilities and gadgets would also be an excellent power armor game.

It's an unfortunate state of affairs, and removing the armor for generic grunt military hoo-rah shit was a crime.
I liked exocorps but it's super dead. One of the few games that really nailed the feeling. I wish they'd at least just expanded a bot match mode.

Lost Planet, and I’m pretty sure that EDF and Helldivers 2 do that as well.

Titanfall is also that, just without the giant bugs.

All of those games have the exosuits as a sort of side element to the more basic shooter gameplay, hell divers 2's exosuits are especially embarassing, you barely even get a power boost from using them because you have to sacrifice mobility and the ability to use your call ins while you pilot them.

That game looks pretty interesting, I had never heard of it before.

God damn I can never get over just for much fucking soul 90s era US army uniforms had, especially the woodland BDUs. It's no wonder older drill sergeants have so much nostalgia for them while resenting the garbage digital ACUs.

Fallout 4 power armor and the Prawn suit from Subnautica is sadly the only thing that comes close.

I'd kill for a game set in the Ma.K universe if only to see what they'd do with power armor in the game since it plays such a prevalent role in the franchise
Anonymous No.714267521 [Report] >>714267640
Yes. It was also inspired by Alien

I feel that fallout 4 wastes a lot of the potential of what they could have done with the PA. Subnautica is not even worth discussing because it has no combat.

I sometimes consider getting F4 just so I can mod the shit out of it and make it entirely power armor focused, but I always talk myself out of the effort of getting it all set up just to play bethesda fallout.

Just pirate the GOG version.

Fallout 4 is the most power armor focused Fallout game and it doesn't even need mods since Bethesda added all the QoL stuff from NV mods as official features. Maybe mod it for later playthroughs.

It's more like I'm concerned I'll set it all up with five hundred mods and I'll take my first step and go "fuck this is just fallout, I'm just playing 3D fallout". I don't like 3D fallout. I just like power armor.

Don't forget Aliens.
