How did Rockstar somehow made a hood rat infested ghetto where people shoot each other on the regular comfy?

Warm orange color also all of the missions start near your house so you get used to driving back to it that it becomes second nature

No matter how shitty home is still home. What helps is that for the most part all the crackheads and gang-bangers are portrayed as comedic. San Fierro is comfy in it's own way but it certainly feels like you're not on your home turf.
So I think devs succeeded in setting the atmosphere.

San Fiero's overcast weather gives it a comfy feeling to it.
I grew up between Norcal and the PNW in the 1990s, so playing through the mid section of San Andreas induced some sort of nostalgic ethereal feeling.

That's how you can tell that both San Andreas and Project Wingman are set in California.

San Fierro has been a slog in all my playthroughs, but that mission where you steal cars and race through the city with Cesar is worth it every time.

as a kid I liked going to the county, pretending im traveling to real cities of my country, making stops to eat, listening to the music on the radio(I had an xbox so i ripped my cds and listen to that too), saving on the houses I already bought but pretending to be sleeping in a hotel. Really comfy.

Your friends and family live around you in a neatly packed area and you go on adventures with them. And there's various shops and pubs and shit really close by that you can visit whenever you want.
Name one other game where it's the same, I bet it's also comfy.
