it's pretty good. It took em 5 years but SteamOS has an official battery charge limit feature now. People recommend you keep it enabled and set to 80% to prolong ze battery.

ALSO.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER put the Deck to sleep and store it in the case after having put it into Desktop mode even once without shutting down or restarting the device.

Desktop processes or any jostling of the controls in the case will wake the Deck up in the case and spin up the cpu; the Deck will cook itself, found this out the hard way. It's a massive issue and they have never fixed it to date. Even if you return to SteamOS from desktop mode, it behaves differently until you reboot.

The only guarantee you have is to just shut the device down every time you put it in the case, it's not too annoying.
The dock is worth it. It upscales very well to larger monitors.

About this: It's easy to understand once you figure it out, but something about the desktop drivers overrides the settings in steamos.

Even though the Steam interface is where you'll primarily interact with features, if you turn network radios off in desktop mode, it will interfere with their function regardless of the setting in game mode. Yeah, it's retarded af, also something they'll never fix.

Keep it enabled in desktop mode and only toggle them in game mode. If something won't connect, delete the connection and reconnect from desktop mode.

I've experienced slow download speeds at some specific point, but I'm connected to 5ghz with my OLED and mostly it's been working fine.
Specifically what's not been working so fine is that after I switched to the beta that updated the kernel to 6. whatever, I had to make a new profile for using it wirelessly instead of using the same as wired.
But I then had to format it (upgraded my SSD) and that was no longer an issue on a new install.

Anon let me share with you some deck knowledge.
If you want to play RPG maker games google rpgmakermlinux-cicpoffs.
That'll save you headaches left and right
Instead of downloading EmuDeck, get RetroDeck. It's less messy.
Don't rely on the frame limiter on the overlay if you want the least amount of input lag possible. Instead, learn how to limit FPS with MangoHUD. Lower latency.
And because you have an OLED display: unlock the developer menu and enable "disable mura compensation".
And if you want to stream games from your PC, your best bet is Apollo.
And if you ever decide that, for some reason, you should switch your d-pad to clicky buttons (there's a kit or two out there) but you don't want to make it too noisy, use small bits of packing tape right on top of each microswitch.
Also set the battery limit to 80%. And if you open the console, just make sure to remove the SD card before anything else. And while the DAC on the deck is ok, I'd recommend getting a dongle DAC instead, for some reason the volume slider is buggy with headphones on.

Oh I forgot about this one too. Since the Deck OLED comes with a case, you can take a smaller case from inside that case, if you don't want to carry that big case. It's actually a case inside a case.
