Unknown has been dead for a long time. They threw away Natural Selection and then most of what people liked about Subnautica 1. It was his choice. They had a good run.

The original team wasn't doing it as fast as shareholders wanted, probably pushed back on suggested timelines to get shit right and or not kill themselves in the process, likely got fired for it and will be replaced by AI (actually indians). Krafton wants returns. They're expediting development to get a product to market ASAP. Whatever they have is what they got. At BEST things will be cut (huge bonus, SN1 less is more), but no doubt you're going to see a chocolate fish staring back at you in every reflection to remind you how diverse and valid you are in a first person game. Maybe one of Indian devs will have the wherewithal to accidentally delete that shader.
