I'm a huge JRPGfag but I have never played these games, are they actually good or are they just "good enough for a Mario RPG"? Do they feel too much like baby's first JRPG?
I was thinking about emulating them
>>714280732 (OP)Yes, they're musts if you claim to like the genre. Play them however you can and want. Wanna play the OG's? Do it. Wanna play the remakes? Do it.
If you're gonna emulate them, at least emulate the originals
>>714280732 (OP)They're very much "baby's first jrpg" but SMRPG is still alright. Has that old soul as long as you emulate the SNES version and not the new one.
Never played paper mario
Yes and yes, I think is the answer to that.
They're well paced and designed and have appealing writing and stuff, but they are essentially baby's first RPG.
>>714280732 (OP)The Switch version of TTYD is woke. Play the Gamecube version.
SMRPG is babby's first RPG for gaijins
Mechanically it's not an interesting RPG, and neither is the story, characters, etc.
TTYD is better in every regard, absolutely worth playing through once.
>>714280898>>714280904what's wrong with the remakes?
I usually prefer remakes solely for the QoL improvements, not sure if there are any in these remakes though
>>714281070Uhhh, that's not what I meant to upload Moot
>>714281089I wouldn't take their criticism for the remakes seriously. They're schizos who are trying to defend their childhood games. Play which ever version you want.
>>714280904All jrpgs are for children, even smt.
>>714281192>>714281070>hrt filterLooks like the same image to me
>>714280732 (OP)TTYD is a masterpiece, Mario RPG was a novelty when it came out but it's a crumby RPG
Mario RPG is utter dogshit. I'd play the original over the shitmake since it has more soul, which is literally the game's only asset
TTYD is great
TTYD is great
Super Mario RPG is charming and funny, but the combat is incredibly basic and tedious, and the level design is not nearly as interesting. TTYD has way more challenge, mechanics, and depth (at least the Gamecube, Switch made things way easier)
If TTYD is a 9.5/10, Mario RPG is a 6/10
They're actually good JRPGs but they're not "good" if you're looking for an extremely complex or deep system. They play about as well as most of the classic/highly rated JRPGs of the era.
They do interesting things with action commands which wasn't the norm in JRPGs at the time so the battles do feel a bit more proactive compared to a lot of the stuff.
>>714281089idk about SMRPG but paper mario has censored dialogue (one of the main charms of the game), weaker artstyle and 30fps. I see no reason to play the remake over the original when there's hardly any QOL
>>714281089Switch version of TTYD is
>30fps instead of 60fps>way slower and more sluggish in combat>forces animations to complete before you can select an action>way easier (already an easy game too)>drowns you in coins and resources>text is waaay slower and you can't scroll back>censored dialogue changes>removed many sound effects>crams hints down your throat for every puzzle section >worse artstyle>allows you to run away for free and instantly retry fights with no penalty>many sections lost their atmosphere and ambiance Only a soulless golem would think the demake is better
The artstyle does actually look better, and characters are more emotive in some ways, so it really is a shame they went out of their way to fuck it up so much.
>>714282334You can fix the dialogue with a patch from Gamebanana (there's one that's simply advertised as just returning the script to the original 2004 version and nothing more but it fixes everything including Vivian and stuff.
There's another patch I got from Gamebanana that got rid of the clean shine/reflection on everything which fixed the biggest issue with the new artstyle for me.
>>714282623Does it fix the sun in chapter 6? Too bad the paper water is unfixable
>>714280732 (OP)Mario RPG is so overrated. It's shit
