The last thing the industry needs is another law overseer.
With all the layoffs the last thing Game Devs / companies need is supporting servers / games that are played by 100> people or less.
Also creating games is something creative and this shouldn't be influenced by politicians.
So make single player games and sex
problem solved
Steam's two hour refund window killed Indie Walking Sims about depression that lasted an hour
I'm fine with a similar trade here
This is going to ending many of talented dev teams. Imagine government forcing you to maintain non-profitable product just because. Yikes.
>>714285779 (OP)>Also creating games is something creative and this shouldn't be influenced by politiciansIndeed. Instead it should be influenced by executives who have never touched a video game in their lives and view them as tools to extract wealth instead of works of art which must be preserved.
>>714286035Executives got to where they are through hard work and effort. Unelected bureaucrats got power because the people are dumb.
>>714285952It just requires some way to be implemented so the game isn't unplayable in the future. Private matches or allowing peer to peer hosting as an option would be acceptable under this.
Basically games like Lawbreakers which you can't play at all anymore in any way would not fly.
>>714285779 (OP)Use the catalog, buy an ad, sage
>>714285779 (OP)>>714285952Help me understand this better. It's been a while since I have looked into these videos since I don't live the EU I can actually sign something actionable. Isn't the entire goal to have an end of life plan that allows users to use the games that they have purchased without server support? And for multiplayer games, why would they have costs for making their dedicated server software public when they decide to shut down official servers?
Did they shift goals? The entire point was to ensure that a game ultimately can be played offline without the need for the devs to run servers, not to endlessly support the game or code the game in such a way where that support would be required.
>>714286230there's people that genuinely believe this btw

>>714285779 (OP)>The last thing the industry needs is another law overseer.Counterpoint: you are wrong and videogames companies will fuck over the players in every way they can if they are not stopped.
You all know what could be coming if you vote for this petition right? You know the possible consequences of inviting the government to intervene in the video games, knowing full well and probably lived through the 90s to 2000s where it was full of delusional old men trying to dictate the rules and censor the fuck out of everything right? This could be even worse than that because now you have those same old men who now see the monetary incentive to fuck shit up and you fuckers are straight up kicking and screaming to come save you.
This might not be the government salvation you guys are hoping for, this may not even be the corpo vs government clash either, this could come entirely at your expense. They MIGHT fuck your shit up, anyone that has been around long enough knows not to trust the government and it's appalling to me that none of you can see Ross as intentionally misunderstanding Thor like he clearly is. He may have had to go to such lengths to ignore all the valid concerns Thor brought up and throw on a full mask under the guise of caring for destroyed games. Maybe he was hoping there'd be a massive outbreak of supposed ecelebs throwing their weight into this to bully Thor all of the sudden when the natural response was to veer as far away as possible from something that could potentially harm devs without hearing their concerns? They've been going into overdrive to push for this and you are all being way too mean to Thor.
If there's any among you that still possesses a brain, I implore you think hard before you sign this. Give it some thought, and spend a day to consider what Thor brought up on the Dev side. This shit could have so many malicious layers to it that it would be wise to not interact with it at all, and to say nothing on the long term ramifications against the average consciousness should it go through. Do you really believe that you might not be throwing away your information for the government to "leak away" in a year's time?

Also I do not see how consumer protections equals censoring to begin with but I assume you're already arguing in bad faith and this entire post was just more of a waste of time to start.

They don't need to support anything. They don't need to do extra work.
The absolute basic requirements to allow their software to be used is just release the server. into the public domain.
It's already programmed, it's already designed to do everything that is needed to be done.
Four lines of code to read an IP address from a text file in client directory and you're done.
While it would be nice for them to do more than the basic requirements, nobody is actually expecting them to re-write an entire game to make it soloable. In fact that's probably actually a worse solution.
There is factually no downside to this, just a bunch of shitty faggots pretending that companies will have to spend millions of developing something they already have and are using. If servers were designed to be so fucking hard to run on different servers then companies would be spending trillions on writing software for each individual server. If they update the game in house, they obviously can run a LAN version of it, just need to flip a switch. Even if its something more complicated like running a server locally simulating the always online server, its easily doable to ship that in a file for players. What would be is having end of life plans so when servers are taken offline, they enable offline play OR provide some tools/documentation so the community can run private servers or other ways to restore functionality
That said, it may still discourage live service titles and the like if it really is especially difficult to make them work offline, but in most cases developers can probably still make it work
So, again, win win: Either shit becomes playable offline or less people make those games anyways

because that used to be the stardard
buy game, you get to keep playing game
but publishers and devs are trying to """"normalize"'"" and """"make players comfortable""""" to not actually own their games
just like it isn't legal for car manufacturers, powertools or literature to sell you a product that was ACTIVELY and INTENTIONALLY made in a way they can remote detonate your copy from use after you gave them money is retarded
SKG doesnt require devs to support games forever
that in itself is a liability because then games die even when a willing developer goes bankrupt
just make your games so you aren't dependant on their centralised servers for their product to work
if volkswagen goes bankrupt and all their cars become paperweights overnight that wouldn't be ok either

>>714299091As an Australian all I can say is, at least you tried.
Australian trade unions are responsible for a shitload of the good things we have in terms of consumer rights and workplace rights.
To be fair to you, older countries were rigged against unions at their conception, Australia being much younger actually incorporated them properly into the system.
>In b4 a bunch of yanks rally against me to shit on unions.
>>714298990What % of Indie games have online elements at all?
What % of those have online elements actually used for gameplay and not just leaderboards and shit?
What % of those actually have online elements that require servers and can't just function via LAN or P2P connections?
What % of those actually have those online elements being complex enough or tied into enough agreements with third parties that the developers couldn't plan to supply at least some tools and documentation for the community to get servers up and running?
It's a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of titles that may have serious issues as a result of this. If that tiny subsection of games don't get made now in favor of other projects, that's a worthwhile sacrifice to ensure that the always online games that DO get released will be playable offline when their servers go down

Afterward he refused to accept any responsibility or admit there were things he could've done differently, he just kept saying "uh I was out of mana I couldn't have done anything."
There are also clips of him previously talking about how he played frost mage specifically for the utility of being able to control the battlefield, and saying that other frost mage that weren't making full use of their kits were bad.

Why is everyone against this petition, specifically those who post reddit screenshots, have this view that gaming can't change course?
That developers do their way, or the highway.
>If EU does this, we will treat them like china and just stop releasing games there
>If this passes, then it's over for games because we don't develop games with future proofing in mind
I would feel anyone who wants to comment on this should have a brain to understand the petition isn't giving the solution already. But instead kicking the conversation up to law makers who could finalize how it actually looks.
These anti petition people seem purposely dense and just unwillingly to even conversate.
Yeah online games now, made before this will have some pains, maybe wow won't get another expansion next year, as they will work on future proofing it. But is that so bad? Is it so bad if games slow down for even a second to the industry can better align with our expectations?

basically two other players fucked the run, called to run early, pulled in way too many mobs, sent the healer in to die, and then called people back.
pirate put a cc on the mobs via a shortened blizzard but it didn't matter because the boss was immune and was the thing doing the most damage.
they got pissy because afterwards they wanted to divide up the blame "fairly" and pirate being his usual self didn't want to have any of it.
so now you have a bunch of retards who don't know how to play wow claiming he could have saved them but not ONE of them can come up with a valid way how because the boss was still gonna kill them unless he threw his own hardcore character away by drawing aggro, like the healer did.
WoW players are largely retards now that just follow a formula spoonfed to them by an addon, and they lose their shit the moment ANYTHING doesn't match that formula.

Bros, what is the next thing we need an inititive for?
>>714301393Ignored the main point.
The problem people mostly had was his hypocrisy, and lying about his mana.
Are you really so dense you cant understand people shitting on the guy for his months of bragging about his wow skills, shitting on other mages he perceived as shit and his blizzard credentials just for him to ROACH.
At the very fucking least he shoulda dropped a nova on the adds before booking it. He could easily jump on edge along the walkway near the entrance and been 100% safe to throw a blizz around the pillar or a sheep. You can even jump down to the lower level rail and hearthstone .

>>714301578>>714301415They don't though. The only win they got was vs apple with the usb-c shit.
Whenever they want to start shit with actual big corporations, like meta, they will grab the headlines with shit like "MARK ZUCKERBERG FINED 500 GORILLION EUROPESOS BY THE EU FOR BEING A PEEPING BITCH" then a couple of months down the road they weasel out of their tough guy act and cede 95% of their demands.
The only thing the EU is good at is pumping its countries full of brown subhumans.

>>714301810>No, they won'tThey have before. This isn't change.org, you know. We're talking legitimate consumer rights issues, where the EU has a track record of deciding in favor of the consumers against large multinational corporations.
In essence, we have won.
>noooo then we can't make low effort trash games designed to suck as much money from whales as possible before we drop it the moment it it starts to become unprofitable!!!
the shills in this thread are going nuts, keep signing, EU anons. If only to watch them seethe more
>>714301841Ban Movie Games
Guys this petition wont change anything, don't bother wasting your time signing it
don't sign it okay? waste of time.
not really worth the effort to sign it.
>>714285779 (OP)making a smug furry upset and making ubisoft seethe even more is enough reason to sign
thanks for the notice anons
>>714301513It pisses me off because if you are gonna shit on someone you should be shitting on them for things that actually got fucked up.
we saw breakdowns from one of the biggest fucking no-lifers, saw his words on how all the people claiming they could have saved them in his place were full of shit being proven true in the tyler1 raid.
I am an autist who will shitpost but I have a sense of fairness damn it.
I want retardation squashed, be it from pirate or anyone else.
>>714301929>The problem people mostly had was his hypocrisy, and lying about his mana.not true. not even close to being true.
because you faggots ALWAYS try to get into bullshit you don't know shit about with how he could have saved them, like you are RIGHT NOW.
the nova wouldn't have done shit.

>>714301942>The only win they got was vs apple with the usb-c shit. And the GDPR
And forcing Steam to refund games
And protections of data...
new whiteness map dropped
>>714296089Dont make the games in such stupid way then.
>>714302217>And forcing Steam to refund gamessteam's policy was already pretty much in line with the EU, anon.
for a long time it was far better than the EU required.
>>714301504Maybe having actual government issued ID wasn't gommunism after all. Even the most retarded romanian can figure it out but somehow in USA it would be "unfair voter suppression" because apparently nigs are just too dumb for it.
>>714302348>sweden 300%that doesn't sound right
Better things aren't possible. It's a waste of time to imagine things changing. It's a better use of your time to instead do daily missions in your favorite AAA GaaS.
>>714302348why has Czechia not crossed the threshold yet? i thought they were gamers
>>714302209Yeah Jason just keep ignoring my points. You didn't even try, and he was safe to do so.
If you wanna roach, don't brag about how clutch you are before hand and how your 7 years at blizzard gives you deep encyclopedic wow knowledge and skills
If i sign this my boss will fire me
>>714302217gdpr sucks donkey dick and isn't even monitored.
t. at our company we had to implement a gdpr check, the vast majority (like 99%) clicks "yes".
steam refund came due to the aussies (or kiwis?)
data protection falls under the gdpr category.
The only truly good thing the EU has done is to force mobile phone makers to use easily swappable batteries.
>>714302209Ya lol, that's fair. It's all just his personality though. If he had just said "Ya I could have maybe cast a couple more low level blizzards It may have helped but I seriously doubt it and the moment I heard run I committed to the bit." it would have been over in a couple of days. He's just so insufferable that even when he's right people jump on him.
I wouldn't have done any better in that situation as far as plays go. I would have cast a couple more spells, but it was fucked from the pull.
>>714302673explain how the nova would have stopped the boss from killing them.

and now they get no one shitting on them for it because OOH FERRET FUCKER SAID NO
I can't wait for gachas to reach end of life and they have to release an offline version you could purchase like Megman XDive.
I'd actually play those slop then.

With the mage toolkit he was completely safe to try and after all his big talk about how good he is in these situations its pathetic that he didn't. 1 nova would have saved him all this trouble and he could easily blink out, jump on the rail, iceblock to guarentee his survival.
Cya next thread. I won't be wasting more time on this. I wasted enough time on vanilla wow already.
>>714301002>imagine you bought a burger at a restauraqntWhy do you fuckers always think about food? Is that why you're supporting this? Because you're too distracted by your growling stomach to read it properly?
Whatever, you want food comparisons? I'll give you a food comparison.
What you're doing is like going to that dumb gimmick diner over in America called the Heart attack grill, they make food that could potentially kill someone and you have to sign a waiver saying you're aware it could kill you.
Seeing a parallel of awareness here?
Anyway, it's like going there with a friend, your friend dying and then attempting to sue them going
>WELL WE DIDN'T KNOW HE WOULD DIE>THEY NEVER TOLD US!
>>714303351I think the heart attack grill should be illegal and shut down. Does this help

>>714303508No, not it doesn't. Controlling what people do with their own bodies just because you don't like it is totalitarianism of the highest order.
>>714303567exactly. they tried to make it a "we all fucked up" when it was a "THESE TWO SPECIFICALLY turbofucked up"
How come private corporation lobbying doesn't seem as effective in the EU as it is in the US?
