We have reached something between survival mode and post scarcity, if you pay attention it seems that as much as 80% of a first world economy is actually devoted to producing nothing or producing more things that do, or its doing something but at extreme inefficiency.
The survival strategy most middle class game devs in the west have settled upon is to act like parasites to suck up as many resources and to keep game development going as long as possible because the job market is so hard, and to try to justify your own existance while doing as little as possible. A kind of corporate welfare program, mostly for white women and brown women.
