What are some mechanics that still don't make sense to you or go against a game's design?

It kind of makes sense if you think of the character as a mercenary who gets paid for kills

In general I think a boss having a very complex fighting style that takes a lot of time to learn is totally fine as long as you're not dying in 2 hits. That directly hinders a players ability to learn during the fight by ending it almost every time you fail to predict when a windup is finished.
For some reason that became the norm.

it is, but the laning phase would be absolutely dogshit without it. almost all earlygame interaction comes from people trying to last hit.

Games that want you to explore and experiment but also punishes failure heavily.

Shmups that give you a spread shot and a focus shot but then the scoring system forces you to use them at arbitrary times for points instead of actually just using them as is ideal for shooting down enemies

Not insta-killing someone with melee killed the game for me. When was that, BO3? Advanced Warfare?

the heart ripping mechanic in Mecha Eden
you can instantly kill a mook by ripping its heart out, and you can throw the heart as a grenade
however, in order to defeat medium enemies you need to eat the heart, meaning that throwing it is a misplay and the heart rip ability is on a long cooldown so you get to run laps around medium enemies while waiting for your fun cooldown to tick down
very strange design

Inventory management unless itโ€™s a game that revolves around it like RE4.
Just give me an infinite inventory, automatically sorted according to selectable algorithms, and lessen the amount of junk in the world for balance.
