They were gonna make Subnautica 2 some live service shit. Yeah yeah subnautica 1 is fun but it shouldn't have taken them 20 years to make, a game being in early access for 7 years should be unthinkable. And they wanted to do the same shit with Subnautica 2 selling you full price for a game they plan on finishing in 5 years.

Based on what they've put out in terms of videos teasing stuff, they're well into development, so I don't think this is going to really shift the direction of the game too much.
Besides, I think the EA release method has worked pretty well for these survival games. Subnautica did it, and it was fine. So did Grounded, and I think Grounded is the best survival game ever made.
