Perfect Dark honestly looked really boring from the footage they showed. Looked like an immersive-sim with all of the choice taken out and replaced by very scripted sequences that only have 1 way of completing the objective. It looked dumbed down for casuals. I have to admit I tried to be excited about this game but even if you ignore all the esthetic and political design choices, the gameplay trailer looked extremely generic, like any other modern fps slop, to make a proper Perfect Dark sequel you have to make it just like the first one, from the objective based missions, to how the enemies react when shot and the gun play, things that developers would seem as obsolete and while trying to "modernize" the game and remove all the soul in the process.
In short: fuck yeah I'm glad this is cancelled! let the legacy live through the fan PC port!

The problem in part is that perfect dark really doesn't track exactly into a specific type of video game. People say immersive sim, and there definitely is some overlap, but most levels also turn into a corridor shooter at some point where you blast through like twenty enemies. Still disappointed

But we've also had continuous gameplay showcases in engine that haven't represented the final product accurately, so that's mostly irrelevant nowadays. And jumping on someone like that is not an impossible mechanic to implement. Just looks like what you can do in any Rocksteady Batman Arkham, Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War or Assassins Creed game, but in first person.

I like msot genres, what I hate is this feeling many modern games have, both AAA and indie, where it doesn't feel like they tried to appeal to anyone. I can look at a game and go "not my thing but I can see why someone whould play it", but many do not have that feel anymore.
