Nintendo not buying Rare was one of the biggest blunders in gaming
That wasn't an option. Rare sold themselves because they weren't happy with Nintendo.
Literally 0 good games kek
Rare completely ruined the nintendo 64 by polluting its library with their abominable games
The problem was that Rare's output was slowing down drastically, they were making games that the Japanese market saw no appeal to (Conker and Killer Instinct never came out there), their latest projects at the time had rocky development, etc
>>714308689They approached Nintendo first
>it's Nintendo's fault the Stamper brothers wanted more money
>the absolute nosedive in quality around the time of the buyout
>the mountain of mediocrity shat out during the 360 era
>deliberately making Kinect games
>Gregg Mayles going full retard saying nobody wanted 3D platformers anymore and reworking Banjo-Threeie around the time Super Mario Galaxy came out
>now we're learning about all the projects in limbo that got "cancelled" as if they were even in development
Banjo-Kazooie is the game that got me into vidya and honestly, I'm about 15 years out from caring about whatever the fuck is happening to Rare.
>"Oi! We're gonna make a racing game with a tiger, innit"
>[Please make Diddy Kong the main character, and slap our logo everywhere in your game]
>"Oi, we're gonna make a game about space children and a dog, and they shoot bugs, innit"
>[You may proceed, but behold how little it will sell]
>"Oi! we're gonna make a game about a squirrel that swears and makes poo jokes!"
>[Please proceed]
>"Oi, we gon make a space dinosaur game with a fox girl, innit"
>[Please make Fox McLeod the main character, and throw Andross in there somewhere]
>"Oi fahk u Nintendo, we're gonna go with Microsoft where we have free reign, innit!"
>{And thus, Rare was purchased by Microsoft, and remained a bitch slave for 20+ years where they made nothing of value, except for Viva Pinata}
>>714308309 (OP)Lost Rare
Got Monolith Soft
I think it all worked out.
>>714309840>[Please make Diddy Kong the main character, and slap our logo everywhere in your game]Rare admitted they went with Diddy for marketing appeal.
>[You may proceed, but behold how little it will sell]The controls filtered everyone and it was up against Perfect Dark.
>[Please make Fox McLeod the main character, and throw Andross in there somewhere]Miyamoto gave them the option to use the Star Fox license and they accepted. The development teams were being taken off 64 projects to work on early GameCube titles so Dinosaur Planet ended up the way it was because it was cobbled together last minute.
Stop trying to paint Rare as victims.
