It might be cope but I think the Mass Exodus last year was a good thing. A lot of them were obnoxious, attention whores, eceleb wannabes etc. who dominated stream 1 pretty much with fake game shows. It feels a lot more speedrun focused now they're gone, with some fun segments still in here and there.

And now a lot of new blood and smaller runners have gotten a chance to actually get on the schedule or do more than one run and its cool to see. These new runners seem a lot less obnoxious and have annoyed me less than the old guard. Of course, Skenmy is still around like a bad rash but you can't win them all.

However, I can see them getting obnoxious and attention whorey if they're cliqueing up and it all goes to their head, but for now I like their runs, they've been fun, and there's not been a runner this entire event where I've thought "SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

It can depend on the nature of the glitches in question, since glitches may make a run completely different (see Super Mario World credits warp, or Ocarina of Time SRM), while others may provide fun tricks or execution. The issue really is just the naming convention for categories, because there isn't really an accepted term for "semi-glitchless" or whatever, and even if there is, it tends to be game specific (see something like SM64 70 stars; some stuff banned, but you could still do others).

Sadly I don't think it will, not just due to ESA but Speedrun events as a general fad or thing that attracts casuals is over. GDQ is suffering too. Really the only thing that attracts casuals and big money these days are those gimmicky runs, because regular runs don't have the "wow factor" to the average Twitch viewer that they used to. So I don't think they'll leave, in fact they'll increase. The only other thing that creates some peaks is if they get a well known runner with a good following, or they run a popular game/flavor of the month game. Its why even though they're boring, both GDQ and ESA will always run Pokemon, because it always brings in the viewers and donos to those dedicated people who love Pokemon.

In terms of literal who runners, I guess in time with more appearances they'll become well known, just so long as they don't become obnoxious attention whores I'm cool with it.

Yeah it's why I say the mass exodus was a bonus. The people who left were all runners I didn't like anyways, who dominated the schedule, and it also meant less meme runs and gimmick runs, though I suspect they'll come back.

I like this more return to form style, but I suspect its just for this event. While the viewership and donations are larger than both 2024's. (They were up to 24k at this point) its still not as big as prior to 2024 (which was at 40k) and what brought in the big views and money was stuff like the IKEA shelf building. So I suspect it'll make a come back.

I've seen this kind of thing happen when I volunteered at a sort of similar thing, when they start replacing entire teams you get it sort of dying in steps as the new people get brought in and take a season or two to understand why their predecessors really walked out on it.

It's not gonna be a massive, sudden trainwreck, more a slow grind to a halt over the span of years as they run out of potential volunteers to shove through the grinder.

I don't dislike Nash, but I think losing him and Lovare is not necessarily a huge loss. Losing him as a runner is bad, but far from irreplacable, and losing Lovare might make future marathons drama-safe. The thing is, the one who loved the meme/non-speedrun segments, Edenal, is still there and in charge. I think a lot of people think the ones who left were the ones that suggested the meme/non-speedrun segments as they were often the public faces of it, and once they left the non-speedrun segments stopped. When its more that they were just asked to be hosts or participants of them. The only reason they stopped is because they're playing it safe now and their regular participants are gone. They still wanna do them, they just want a quiet, more safe event right now.
I feel like Metako got unfairly blamed for a lot of that stuff because he was the host of a lot of them and was constantly on Stream 2 that one ESA (Summer 2023 I think?) so people thought it was his idea when in reality he much preferred to be back on Stream 2 but Edenal kept insisting he be a major stream 1 prescence and host all these game shows.
