Dark souls I'd say. The gameplay is solid and that's all that really matters. Story is gay.

It slowly gained traction across ds 1 - 3 but elden ring was what was creating primarily to market to normal fags and the sales numbers speak for themselves despite the game itself being pretty boring, though nice to look at

It had the most hype, that's for sure. Returning now to replay it is a snore fest. It's better first time round when you don't realise you're in for a ton of recycled content

the games got a reputation for being really difficult but people can beat them blindfolded because boss attack patterns are relatively static

I'd say Dark Souls 3 is when it became for normies. Bloodborne was incredibly successful, but also console exclusive. So when DS3 comes around and everyone is praising Bloodborne for being the greatest game of all time, the normies had a new game and flocked to it. Demon's Souls was niche, Dark Souls 1 only got popular after Prepare to Die Edition which we started to see a rise in faggotry, and Dark Souls 2 still tried to make 'something' resembling the series. Also, I think Dark Souls 3 sold a fuckton more than all the others even combined on release. When we get to Elden Ring, they were already here.

I heard people talking about Dark Souls 1 even at my high school where there was pretty much only normies. This game had reportedly sold 2.3 million copies in 1 and a half years. Dark Souls 3 sold 3 million in 1 month.

This.
Elden Ring is ludicrously good.
A fact made even sweeter by the absurdity of the crusade that was levelled against it by doom-mongers like the Shazamposters.
The best part is that they didn't even possess a solid rationale for this antipathy, they arbitrarily chose to dedicate a sizeable portion of their existence to waging a shitpost war against a videogame simply because they wanted to revel madly like pigs in the mud, basking in its catastrophe like the next great Tortanic.
Normally, this behaviour would naturally end following the game's release, but I feel these shitposters flew to close to the sun with Elden Ring. They invested so much energy that they drew too close to the event horizon, and are now stuck in a zone of unfathomable butthurt.

I have nothing to add, but decide which souls game I play next. I own:
>Demon's Souls - PS3
>Dark Souls 1 - PS3
>Dark Souls 3 - PC
>Bloodborne - PS4
>Elden Ring - PC
>Dark Souls 2 - PS3
