I either buy games from gog, through publisher (if they are good like Black Flag or Origins) or pirate them. I have only few games with multi-player on steam.

Kind of hard when he's the one with all the games. Most publishers have limited or no support for non-Steam stores. It's the network effect in action, and it's why Valve has a de facto monopoly over PC distribution.
