Its a shockingly comfy game, makes me sad that the sequel is kind of a downgrade and no one really remembers the games outside of the TF2 community, and even then its only because you could get hats from it.

I would love to see more of these games get made but with better character choices than Claptrap. Its a shame cause otherwise the characters in 2 aren't even that bad, Claptrap is just such a bad pick that I can't help but feel like it drags the entire game down.

I have finally done it after 270 hours of playtime. Here are some observations

>Obelisk is situational but incredible
Obelisk is incredible if it comes at the right time. I had a Trousers run where I played two pair for a while, but I was going to get outscaled if I didn't see any xMult jokers in the shop. I just pivoted towards Full House or actually Four of a Kind (even with Trousers) when Obelisk showed up. Which leads to the next point

It's not that you can't make it work, it's that it doesn't scale good and there is always a better hand to play
>Don't sleep on Square Joker
It makes lower hands playable when you can't get a good source of planet level for Pairs or High Cards
>Four of a Kind is better than Five of a Kind
It's easier to draw, it scales almost as good, it leaves a space for your Blue Seal Steel card and doesn't add another planet to the pool. Don't take the 5oak bait, skip it and build towards Flush Five if you have enough cards to make the switch
>Glass with retriggers is OP
Hanging Chad with glass cards has saved me many runs I would have otherwise lost
>Straights are incredible
Straights reach parity with 4oak with one level in Saturn and have the same scaling from then onwards and are a lot easier to draw. With help of +1 handsize voucher or joker you can discard 5 cards every hand which makes them easy to draw and play multiple Straights in the same round. Deck build for Straights by chopping off the high and low cards (Aces, Queens, Twos and Threes) and look for the ones in the middle. When playing hands you want to look for inside Straights since that way you look for two cards instead of one. Don't play A-K-Q-J-10 because you will be looking for a J that may not come, instead keep 10-9-8-7 in hand while looking for a J or 6.

Play good scaling hands like Straights and 4oak, throw some Lucky/Glass/Steel cards in, make sure you have a couple of blue seals and it will be easy. Golden Needle is a harder challenge than Jokerless

It mostly comes down to "win on the hardest difficulty while having -1 joker slot". I found it fun, but I wouldn't do it again. You would think it would become really hard to find the remaining jokers when you are close to the end, but really it only becomes an issue when you're down to 2-3 out of 150.
For anyone trying to do it, make sure you are taking advantage of the fact you still get a sticker if the joker is perishable if you keep it until the end. I forgot about this and probably missed some chances to get some tougher ones earlier

Straights are just impossible to play without Shortcut. I won't hear otherwise. If you get Shortcut in ante 1 or 2 you're allowed to play straights, otherwise just forget about it. I've lost too many runs to perfectly tuning my deck for it only for the shuffler to act like a complete cunt and bottom deck all my 6's or some shit.

Yeah, part of the main downside of straights is the precision. Without shortcut of four fingers, it’s hard to pull a straight off and often it takes two or even three straights to beat a blind. As well as higher stakes crippling your discard count, straights are basically never worth it unless you’re on abandoned deck or have those other two jokers. Also if you fail to get any Saturns, you’re fucked hard (which is why Observatory is so damn important for straight decks).

Shortcut makes Straights super easy and it's basically a free win. But if you don't get it you can get away with Runner/+1 hand size and a couple of Saturns to get going. I agree it's unreliable but it's so satisfying when you pull it off. I wouldn't play it every run but depending on what you get it can be really good
Also, Runner is super good since it scales really well with a hand that naturally gets a lot of Mult.

This is what makes c++ boring as shit. It gets to a point where you are just repeatedly running back the most reliable deck hopefully getting ~3 jokers that will carry the 1 or 2 shitters to gold stake. Like I get the point is to win with unique playstyles, but the +8 mult for a pair is straight up deadweight in every strategy.

After a while it just clicks even if it seems impossible in the begining. Not saying you will ever be expected to win close to 100 percent of the runs but you don't need to as long as you are winning consistently

C++ is not for everyone and I thought it wouldn't be for me since I rarely go for 100% in games, but here we are, I guess I liked the game too much
