I was watching the Rare Replay documentaries and something in my head started spinning. Rareware were GREAT engineers, BAD game designers. The Nintendo Era games always had something like "Ah yeah, Nintendo gave us some pointers I guess. And that worked great" and then when it came to the Xbox Era it was just "Microsoft left us on our own to create a new game, we had tons of trouble but I think we got it in the end."
This just tells me that Rare always needed someone to put them on the right track, unlike Retro Studios or Next Level Games, two studios that were bought by Nintendo because they didn't have to wrangle them all the time. Yeah, what happened to Everwild sucks but I think that this was a long time coming.
