-Everything you need to make basic gameplay happen (classes and skills) is locked.
-You have to spend dozens of hours running back and forth across the map at the beginning, grinding to earn "points"
-These points can be spent on unlocking the skills and classes you need to actually play the game.
-99% of the skills and classes you can unlock are useless
-There are no refunds if you make the wrong choice, go grind for another 48 hours
-The localizers of the USA version increased the cost of everything because they thought it'd be funny
-The writing seems like it would be interesting but it's convoluted anime brainrot nonsense.
-People say the PSP version has a better translation but it's not better, it's actually less accurate. It's more flowery and verbose, they added 10 times more words than is necessary. So people think "more words = more betterer".

That's an incredibly common thing in RPGs. Only recently is it starting to become common where you can respec and refund your points spent on skills.

Baby's first SRPG meaning it's pretty damn good and is worth a play.
Stick with the OG and play through the first chapter since it shouldn't take more than an hour or so, if you're not hooked by then in some form or fashion don't even bother with the genre

Yes you fucking can. It's a not a remotely difficult game. You are not even fighting against the NPCs after a certain point, you are fighting against forgetting what the current laws are. I can't think of a better example of "artificial difficulty." Imagine a Mario game where the law is "no coin blocks" and if you forget and hit a coin block it's game over.

Every single version of FFT in English is fucked for one reason or another. Original translation has some cool lines but also has lots of confusing wordings that make no sense. WotL is overly flowery and a pain in the ass to read while ruining lots of the good lines in the original. Painfully obvious first attempt at making a SRPG.
Do yourself a favor and watch the cutscenes on YouTube instead of slogging through the game, its shit and has no strategy aspect, there's nothing to plan around, enemies have randomized builds, you don't get to see the map before you send in your pitiful 5 (at most) units, and you have to fight tons of random encounters on the map because you're intended to just grind, grind, and grind until you happen to level the right jobs to unlock the jobs with the good abilities and then grind the JP to equip those abilities.

My number one critique is that the game has an exploit where you can make any character pretty much invincibleand if you don't know about it you would 100% believe it's hacking.
Grinding past max level this way is a total chore.
Building a character from the ground up is a chore.
Everything happens in Chapter 4 making chapter 4 over 75% of the game.

You can not support the official release of a game made in 1997. So you should have no guilt playing the best version for free.

What's the best mod/romhack for this? I played WOTL a decade ago and thought a replay with something extra to it might be fun.
