There's no reason to make a single player campaign ridiculously difficult. Any competitive person who plays RTS games will play them online against other players anyway and in that regard, WC3 was lightyears ahead of AOM. Hence why WC3 was one of the biggest and most competitive RTS esports for a time whereis AOM was always a casual game without any meaningful competitive scene.

Literally the worst thing I've experienced in PC gaming.
I used to come back & play WC3 on Battlenet every now and then, I even had the physical copy of the game and Frozen Throne on my physical, real life desk, one day I went to launch it and there was an update which straight up made the game not work on my computer. I later found out that was "Reforged". Game literally went from working to not working. 0/10 Blizzard.

I had to go and pirate the old (Pre-Reforged) WC3 so I could continue playing

A friend of mine did that in Graal. Smuggled in an OP item that killed anyone in one hit into custom content he made that got added to a server, then he went on a rampage killing people in public. A GM showed up and he killed them with it too then got banned.
