>>714370125>There's nothing pretentious about itThere is but you'll just go "nuh uh, it's super duper well written because the characters said fuck"
The overall theme of the game... Or should I say the overall theme of the story, as there are two seperate themes running opposingly at all times, the narrative is trying to push the idea that revenge is horrible, that it harms and destroys you as a person and leaves you broken. The problem is that that ideal doesn't carry over into gameplay, in fact it's the polar opposite, it thrives and thirsts for violence, it wants you to kill it rewards you for being a violent psychopath.
So the game is saying "Wow murder sure is bad and evil and you're a vile, disgusting person for killing this individual... Now FLAY YOUR ENEMIES, EAT THEIR FLESH, DEVOUR THEIR EYEBALLS AND MAKE THEIR BRAINS A CANVAS ON THE WALLS"
Kinda ruins the concept. Like why are these generic mobs different from the named characters? Remember the very essence of this story is that the random mob in the first game was the secondary protag's father. Yet now we just kill another couple hundred mobs and the cycle totally ends because Ellie let the tranny who also killed a couple hundred mobs go.
You've just taken your intended theme, popped a couple laxatives and dropped a diarrhea shit all over it like a gay furry wearing a diaper.
The game wants you to take it seriously but the way it really works is that the gameplay never happens. The only moments that happen canonically are the story cutscenes so the gameplay isn't connected at all, except it wants to say it is making the entire game more schizophrenic than the local schizos on /v/.
How is that not pretentious? How can the game be taken seriously when it actively shits on it's own themes the moment you have control?
