They really believe people think their characters are incredible, well-written, hyper-attractive and just better than all other fictional characters, when really people just want good turn-based games. They have that syndrome where when they think a lot of people are going to be listening, they need to get all philosophical and make broad, deep statements on the problems of the world. It is in the way every bully is. As ham-handed and stupid as P5X is, it does a better job conveying how pathetic he is and the throughline to his deterioration of character. There's nothing to suggest Kamoshida wasn't always like this; you just get to infer that it scaled down to high schoolers since he's not top dog anymore. Kiuchi always had bitch in his heart, but it didn't come out until he hit a breaking point, after which he spiralled into a near unrecognizable, pathetic loser.

They're the same kind of story, but Kiuchi is honestly putting more thought into it and doing a better job examining it despite how campy it is.

I can't believe how much shit there it to do. Maybe it's just because I don't have the free time to dump into it that I'd like to, but after a week I would have expected that I'd be in the "log in and do dailies" routine. I haven't even started the second palace, I haven't finished any of the castle/leblanc things, I have a fuckload of velvet trials to do, there's apparently a weekly guild boss that I haven't even unlocked yet. This game launched with so much shit to do.

I generally like it a lot. The story is funny but pretty meh so far, feels like a facsimile of P5 which was already not very good. Apparently it'll get better after the 2nd palace so I'm looking forward to that. I like the pacing more than base P5, way less standard around and talking. Cast is fairly strong. Gameplay is good, although imo the time gating stamina/gacha shit sucks as a single player gamer. Overall this is a lot better than I expected, hopefully the sped up character release schedule doesn't spoil a lot of the fun I'm having by rushing new chars in but not giving the resources to pull enough of them.

P5X's theme is actually about the loss of hope and feeling like you can't stop these powerful people and there's nothing you can do. While P5 focuses on the oppressors oppressing due to their power, this game focuses on oppressors who make people feel hopeless.

P3 and P5 also do the "muh apathy" thing in some form, it's just a common throughline in these games because Japanese people are autistic and collectivist so your fictional story has profound themes and meanings if it just says "what if some anime characters actually gave a fuck and tried to do literally anything about a bad situation". P4 leans into this less but still kinda does it because the denizens of Inaba more or less stand around as a deathly fog rolls through town and nobody seems to want to do anything about it other than a ragtag group of teenagers with superpowers.

Probably because he pales in comparison to Kamoshida as a villain and he's written like a Saturday morning cartoon villain which downplays the issue that exists in reality rather than say something meaningful about it. He doesn't do anything either and only gets away with it even when reported due to the incompetence of others.

Yes P5 and its spin-offs does have issues with this sometimes as well (Kaneshiro) but Kamoshida is definitely not part of those issues as he knocked it out of the park.

The shoving in public is an actual real life issue in Japan. I think people think its retarded and silly because you couldn't imagine it in Europe/the Americas, if some asshole came and shoved you, you'd fight him. If you saw him shove a woman, you'd very likely have men jumping in to fight him or at the very least get involved and call him out.

But Japan is such a socially awkward reserved society people genuinely get away with doing this shit and bystanders are crippled with insecurity of "should I act? Or not?"

Its like the good side of a shame based culture is everyone being polite and peace being maintained. The downside is when you have people brave enough to break that "rude" barrier, theres no natural reaction to stop them until it gets big enough that the police get involved. Its actually quite a poignant weird issue so its clever for them to do it as the first villain.

But its so Japan specific its hard for anyone else to relate to it

The entire point of the story is the world is being robbed of its desire to do ANYTHING. Everyone is becoming really apathetic about everything, the story even kicks off with a girl just throwing herself off the roof and the commuters are like "Ehh... thats too bad, shes probably fine I guess".

The girl in pink that shoved her friend out of the way is one of the playable characters that has a strong enough desire to fight back against this "desire sapping" plague, all the playable characters do.
