I have both consoles. I got the xbox first because most of my friends are on it and while it's fine, it's nothing groundbreaking. Even the UI is the same as the xbox one. It feels like an incremental upgrade rather than a generation one, but I've still put thousands of hours into the console and gamepass. I also have a PS5 which I bought because I gave my cousin my PS4. I initially bought the PS4 because of the exclusives as I play everything else on PC or xbox with friends, and the PS4 had some great exclusives especially from Japanese publishers. This gen though, the PS5 sucks I literally only have spiderman 2 on it as nothing else interests me, and I don't even own spiderman 2 I'm just game sharing it so I haven't actually ever bought a game for PS5 since owning it. Right now I just play everything on PC because the consoles are useless. Xbox only gets turned on when my friends want to play a multiplayer game that doesn't have crossplay. PS5 never gets turned on.

Back when I bought my PS4 franchises like Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts, Judgment etc weren't multiplatform yet. PS4 was the only way to play them, alongside the first party exclusives like Spiderman, TLOU, GoW etc. So I got good value out of owning the console which I bought for cheap on the used market. My PS5 is also used, but I feel like I haven't got any value out of it. It cost me 3x more than my PS4 did but I've used it 100x less.

Also for added context I have a "gaming laptop" but it's incapable of running most games over 60GB, i didnt want to deal with building a new pc again.
So even though paystation has shit for exclusives I'm getting more out of it than someone with a decent PC would. If I had a decent PC then yes I'd have literally no reason that I can think of to buy a ps5 other than trying to Day 1 gta 6

Upgrading the GPU wouldn't be enough to play something like Monster Hunter Wilds at 1080p60FPS, I'll just play it on the PS5 and save my money from expensive PC parts until my PC actually dies. Gears of War was huge back then, Halo, the best version of Bayonetta was on the XBox360 because the PS3 version was shit at launch and the 360 did better for awhile simply by being cheaper.

PC gaming is synonymous now with 8GB VRAM 400 dollar cards and 800 dollar 16GB GPUs and shader compilation stutter with NVIDIA drivers bugging out. A PS5 and Switch 2 cost 450 dollars.
