Crash 1 had the problems of no checkpoint for the hard paths which made it stupidly hard but it's still better than Crash 4.
Crash 2 and 3 and pretty good and much better than 4

Played the game a bit on Xbox One (since I am at a parent's home), and why does this game feels so unresponsive ? I move the analog on a wired controller and it feels like it takes a decade for Crash to move

Going for the boxes will wear you down, they went way overboard with hiding boxes just out of the screen EVERYWHERE. Run through and enjoy the challenge of the levels. 100%ing them is asking for despair.

2 is regarded as the best of the original trilogy
Just the amount of challenge, the expanded moveset, not too many gimmick levels, and 100% isn't as unrealistic to strive for thanks to the standard gems no longer requiring deathless runs in every stage.
3 is the most bombastic but is dragged down by too many gimmick vehicle levels
Crash 4 100% is mostly an exercise in tedium only surpassed by crash bash.

It's the only 100% Crash that's a challenge, and challenges are good. What do the other games test you on? Checkpoints storing box counts sucks and is entirely for casuals. 3 At least has Relics.
