This doesn't change the fact that Triple A will have no quality testing and better working conditions for developers. I'm happy the government is getting on their asses, but its not a meaningful victory

Government will have to review it and respond. If concerns are proven merited, they might introduce regulations that demand game developers sunset their games in some way or another, most likely by developing games with p2p functionality, allowing community servers or a token offline mode - anything that allows the game to remain playable after the company servers go offline.

yup, USA has the same law where the government has to reply to petitions over a certain amount of signatures. usually it's just "we've taken a very close look and we may or may not do something" and that's the end of it
>just open-source it bro
I don't get it. What if the server code contains proprietary libraries? What if the server is just a thin wrapper around the code licensed from another entity?

Are you retarded? Games have had dedicated servers for decades. Fucking minecraft let's you host a server with one button. This affects future games anyway so they would be made from the ground up knowing the requirements. Current slop wouldn't have to release anything.

The most likely scenarios would be that MMOs are going to be exempt from the regulation, because honestly, that's just a can of worms to sustain indefinately, even by the community.
The rest of the live service games? Fuck no.
Do zoomers even know what Hamachi is?

First keep getting people to sign it since the republicans, lolitarians, capitalists in general will try to challenge any and all signature's validity, so have a cushion is a good idea.
Also might be a nice show of force if you get double the requirement

You joke but in 15 years there will be people teenagers who are interested in the history of BioWare and will never get a chance to play this game.
will consoles be excluded or included in this? there have been moments where people were able to hack consoles using online games with an exploit, and without support they won't be able to patch the game. given how anal they are about security, i'm sure they'll be an assload of pushback, especially from nintendo
