They had plenty of units ready to go at launch. So much so that it didn't sell put completely until the day after launch. There were plenty of consoles that were sold put for months after launch. So the demand was there to sell way more, they just didn't have the units to sell. Basically you're limited by the number of units you ship to retailers, putting a cap on the max you can sell at launch. That makes the record breaking launch all com3 down to the fact that they finally printed more units for a launch. It's not as impressive in context.
They people who are buying it now, are the people who were going to but it anyway. We really can't judge a consoles success until after it's first year or so.

As for being expensive, it only costs more up-front. The reduced software and peripheral expense can make up the difference (and then some) long term.

I havent bought one yet in the initial release, but as soon as a new Fire Emblem game is announced, I'll pick one up.
I had no reason to buy an XBox because I know all those games will be on PC. I had no reason to buy a PS5 because I knew they would release a Pro version shortly after, and still haven't bought the Pro because all the exclusives I cared about have already come to PC.
Switch 2 will have Nintendo exclusives I know I will want to play, and I know Nintendo is too retarded to put out a Switch 2 Pro or OLED version for another half decade at least, so it will be a safe enough purchase when it's time.

If we're comparing the Deck with the Switch 2, there are countless games on Deck that are not on Switch 2 and will likely never come to Switch 2. And neither of these bricks are very portable. Get real lmao.

Sure they make good games, but that also hit it's peak with the switch. Mario Cart 8 has like every track ever relased in the history of the franchise. Mario Kart World tries to bring something new, and people don't like it after the novelty wears off. They just want to skip the intermission tracks. I don't know what they are going to try with smash, but the current version of that has every character. This isn't true and it depends on the game. Battery life is about the same as with switch 2 on the standard steam deck in AAA games. Worse performance those since you need to dial it back to 40 fos to trade off for more Battery. I do like that you can do that though on the deck, choose how you want to run the game and where you want to make tradeoffs.
Imo the best handheld right now is still the Switch 1 OLED. I just think it's price, balance, and performance ratio is the best. It has the best battery life by far, at least 5 hours in every game, even the demanding ones. You get an OLED screen for the price point. And the games that don't run on it are optimized already, you don't have to tweak them yourself, everything just works and you get the best experience you can.

Sure, it definitely depends on the game. But the whole point of spending more money and buying better hardware, is to run more demanding games. BTW I don't own a switch 2 and don't plan on buying one, Im not here to defend it's awful battery life, I just don't think it's fair to compare it to a steam deck running minecraft for 8 hours. The only reason Nintendo would want to create their own launcher to begin with is to retain full control so they could continue the abuses of their walled garden ecosystem, just on safer hardware. Nintendo will never put their games on PC because they're a toy company. Their consoles are meant to be toys to play with that gives you action figures and dolls to take on an imaginative adventure on.
