Areena is still going on. There's an Arena 8 for mobile phones, which is actually pretty good and works perfectly as a coffee break game. Also give Battles of Norghan a look (it's on steam). It's a game heavily inspired by Areena but way more complex and deep. It was never super popular, but I think it really is a good game. It's only 4€ on steam right now if you're interested.
