A reminder. The 64gig express cards they use are 16 dollars a piece. If you plan on a regular game release, you need about 300k units. Imagine paying 4.8 million to Nintendo JUST to make physical units for your game if you wanted to release on Switch. If your game can fit on the lower 6 gig card, that is still 5 dollars per unit. 1.5 million. Meanwhile, the Key Card costs 50 cents. 150,000 dollars. It is no wonder why they are going with the Key Card. The majority of sales are digital, they have the data to back this. Almost no one purchases physical anymore, we are talking 20% of the user base of the platform, why bother having what amounts to "the Nintendo Tax" if the sales are going to under perform anyway? This is essentially the same problem the N64 had, but this time there is an actual solution that Nintendo did ahead of time.
