Meaning they rarely get one hit KOs. On top of being 1 move slower the tempo loss is exceptional. Your enemy can just run away from your md and stall the MD tanks for up to 2 turns with just one tank. This doesn't make the MD tank bad but it's too easy to play around. Now the Nedo tank with it's 6 movement and 105% base damage against tanks and beautiful 125% base damage against infantry makes it's an unstoppable force. You can't stall it because it will wall break you. It has 6 movement so you can't out pace it. You can't chip it because even damaged it still does crazy damage. It's a land bomber that can't be zoned by 8k anti-air. Megatank is a meme.

I actually googled it for you as well, the crashes mainly happen on 4 player maps when using the co power and mainly when having speed up consistently held and mostly on emulators which explains why I never saw it beyond audio bugs because I played it on a real switch and always let go of the speed up during co power animations which is why I at worst got minor bugs.
I still stand by that its a good remake, it has bugs sure but not unfixable ones and thats on nintendo actually wanting to fund those patches which they wont.

Since most AW inspired games seem to change a bunch of shit I've been thinking about an AW inspired game that keeps the core mechanics, but has a different unit list.
Priest - just the infantry renamed
Scout - recon inspired, but can damage some units and has better movement through terrain
Soldier - tank inspired, 5 movement. Can move on mountains at heavy cost, but not rivers
Archer -AA inspired, also does heavy damage against unarmored units (Priest, wizard)
Knight - Wall Breaker, takes and receives heavy damage. 7 movement, can move over rivers at heavy cost, but not mountains
Wizard - Missile inspired, flat damage against non-flying units.
Earth Elemental - Md. Tank inspired.
Wagon - APC inspired, can move fat over open ground and carry most ground units
Hawk knight - B.Copter inspired, 6 MV, takes little damage from ground units
Air Elemental, Fighter inspired, 7mv
War Balloon, - Bomber inspired 5 movement
Harpoon ship - anti-air boat and counters Water elementals
Water Elemental - anti-water sea unit
Gunboat - Battle-ship inspired.
Ferry - transport ship. Can unload onto any land tile

Reboot camp plays a lot better with the Switch 2, all the slowdown/FPS/loading is no longer an issue.
I recommend people play it now, feels like it got a switch 2 upgrade for free.

Her infantry are arguably the only infantry in the game incapable of challenging Colin's on base caps - yes, it's 90% vs 80%, but both are bad and can't break cities. Jess is completely unable to break Colin's midgame infantry walls while he builds up vehicles and copters behind it, so until Jess starts teching up to wall break she gets wrecked, and by the time Jess is teching Colin will be spamming COs and matching Jess's mediums with his own Neos, 1 for 1.

Largely their only application is locking an airport, which itself is usually dependent on there being some exacerbating factor preventing you from just driving a tank onto it. They suck at warding off air units, and are useless at countering an air push.
Piperunners are another good candidate, but a really weird one. If the map is set up for them, they're super good. If the map isn't, they block your own base and are expensive for what they do.
Cruisers are pretty bad until DS. They struggle at the matchups they're supposed to take, get crushed in the ones they're supposed to lose, and arguably are the most responsible factor for navy as a whole being trash (navy being overpriced is probably the bigger factor, imo). Subs, by extension, kinda suck, because their only real purpose is fighting battleships and carriers, something battleships also do, while also being a battleship. Buying subs is almost always a concession that you're giving up winning the navy fight, and are now in damage control mode.
Megatanks are way better than any of these, but are also real shaky. They pretty much only excel at hard base defense, and not dying in a single turn, almost no matter what. That's real niche, they'll never pay themselves off, but sometimes that's what you need.

If you buy a recon only because you want to spend your 4k this turn instead of saving up for a tank, you're a fool. Very similar to mechs, you're delaying getting your actual good units, and while you might be able to delay a capture for a turn or two, the tempo loss WILL catch up to you.
Obviously they're top tier in fog though.
I always wanted to make a game where is was medium sized unit tactics. Like moving your tanks here, or your platoon there, or call in a helicopter assualt etc. So like you upgrade or change your squads equipment like are a anti-tank role or are they anti-air. But I couldnt see that possible in a 2d format in terms of pixel art because the scales dont really make sense to me in Advanced Wars, like how does a infantry unit with 5 troops takes a city? also what are these factories where they come from lol? At least its explained in Days of Ruin.
So if its 3rd I guess you can make it turn based like XCOM, where your units have limited range to move and then dismount and do whatever, like entrench or mine roads etc. But it doesnt have that nice 2D pixel look like Advanced Wars.
I liked Battalion Wars a lot, but again that was just too cartoony for what I would want, even though Battalion Wars is good. I wouldnt mind even a stylized version of Steel Beasts, I think it would be cool. I just really wanted a game where you are like in a tank commander (or you dont have to be) but you can tell a squad to flank from the left or right and slowly press your assualt but having it be also a hardcore one death instant death realism feel (in terms of game play) ie, you peak over a hill like a retard and your tank gets blasted because you profiled yourself like a retard. I also like the idea of a 2D Isometric Advance Wars type game too. I am pretty good at pixel art so I should be able to make interesting designs.
Is the best way to to figure out if a game idea would work or not is to draw it out or do you need to go further and make a demo?

Base position isn't hard it's almost always the 2B or forward base. As for map, recon are good more often than they're not. So it comes down to can you get away with building a recon, the answer often being yes. Because you control where the tanks are going to go, where the conflict is going to be, and your opponent's income. They give you a lot of control.

2. Battleships can fire after moving like in DoR. Battleships earn their price by being utterly dominant, but are dependent on the rest of the navy to protect them. Battleships, along with cities below, are your reward for naval superiority.
3. Naval cities. Call 'em oil rigs, or whatever the fuck you want. Cruisers and maybe Black Boats can capture them, or maybe a new unit dedicated to the task. Maybe they can capture Ports, too.
4. Cruisers hard counter air units properly, and have the default shot for other naval units from iirc DS. Between this and rigs, Cruisers now exist at a baseline, meaning the water is now dangerous to aircraft, and can pitch in to combat against other naval units.
5. Subs and Cruisers should have a mutually harsh matchup. Either one fucks the other if they get the first shot. Subs utterly wreck everything else, but are wholly locked to naval combat.
6. Carriers should be able to carry 2 choppers, or 1 plane. When buying a Carrier, there should be the option to buy it with a chopper already in it, full price.

Neotanks are slightly better performance, for a notably more expensive price. They're not particularly efficient at dealing with either Mediums or other Neos, and are more for bullying weaker units and not taking chip. They're a luxury unit, for sure, they are absolutely better than a medium, but they're not MUCH better, and are probably not better than a Medium + a second unit.
Megatanks are generally a meme. They have a very narrow set of applications, that mostly boil down to "I really need a unit that WILL NOT die, for one turn". Pretty much the only times this is useful is for contesting bases, parking/building a Megatank at a base damn near guarantees it will still be there on your next turn, meaning either your base isn't being blocked, or their base was prevented from producing. It's not the most efficient way to do this, but is a nearly guaranteed one. Beyond this, it has atrocious value trades against anything, is slow as fuck, and doesn't "do" anything productive. It can deter mediums, so, another fringe use, but not mediums supported by anything. The pitiful ammo is also a legitimate issue for them.
Even COs that generate value on units kinda don't want them, because of the atrocious return on investment they provide. Neotanks are always better from the perspective of "Andy generates X amount of money per Power".
MAYBE if you're Colin or something, and have one billion dollars after spamming his power, you can get one, and just kinds fling it towards the enemy, and let it draw a fuckton of fire, as they stop it from doing whatever it is your plan was, even though your plan was nothing, because it can't do anything. I'd just get a Neotank and an Artillery though.

If a mix of forest tiles slows down mediums multiple tiles over several turns relative to normal tanks, I might flood tanks until I can afford a neo, or just focus more on triangle units instead of teching.
Megas are like you said, a meme, but they actually trade incredibly well vs anything that's not a bomber...for the first hit. Even getting first struck by a Neo is gold-positive for the mega...but only if the mega is at full health beforehand. They get absolutely fucked by indirects, bombers, swarm attacks, even infantry draining its ammo. And since you just sunk 28k into that mega, you won't be able to afford any supporting units for it.

Because they're slow and a bit telegraphed, they're almost never really getting to take their preferred fights, even if that means getting shot by a Neo as an opening volley, and are almost always getting bombed, shot by artillery/rockets, getting their paint scraped by infantry luck, or having their ammo sponged by stray, crippled tanks and recon before they run into the Mediums & Neos. I've always found my best success with completely disregarding any damage they actually deal back, in favor of focusing on being an unkillable blob on terrain, and maybe a bit of them drawing fire from more important units at best. They're going to attack it in the most advantageous order they can, probably, so, count on that instead of hoping they don't.

Using those four tanks you can have an easy 4-5 turns of chasing the enemy infantry and enemy tanks and getting complete map control. By the time the megatank starts knocking on your base, you can just get an arty or two, and because the enemy no longer has any supporting infantry or tanks or ANYTHING due to the loss in tempo caused by spending 28k on a crawling hunk of metal, they won't be able to even reach your backline arty spam before you deal 4-5 damage to it. To say nothing of other options like bcopter spam, bombers, the works.
Really they're only good for extreme base defense situations, like on mixed based maps when you have 3 tanks and 8 infantry going to your weakside and you just need to delay the base flip for another 4-5 turns. Even still, if they lock your tank on the base and plink it with artilleries, it's gonna cost you another 5.6k in repair costs every turn while you can only do 1k back shooting an infantry, worse if it's blocked in by damaged infantry.

The worst units in AW are either Missiles, Carriers, or Piperunners. Cruisers also usually suck but don't know if they'd be more meta if online play had buffed them to DS levels.
Mechs are generally situational but can be extremely good if the player knows what they're doing, and you only want to have a few of them used in the right areas.

If you're talking about mechs though...well, a mech in a mountain is pretty good. 40% defense means even if they get first struck, they'll hit back hard on the counter and then again when it's the mech's turn. Lash infantry/mechs on mountains during SCOP are basically invincible, they have 90% defense. The same 90% defense applies for headquarters, it's almost impossible to budge a Lash infantry off an HQ cap unless it's damaged beforehand.
Unfortunately all of the same general flaws of mechs still apply, but on maps where mechs would normally be okay due to heavy mountain, city, and missile silo play, Lash can turn those mechs from okay to good. It just boils down to understanding when to build mechs and when to stop. Frankly, if mechs ONLY got used when they should be, they'd probably be a B tier unit. But because they're so often flooded inappropriately, they feel more like D tier.
