Also iPhone switching to USB C cost Apple literal billions. Lightning was proprietary and they were raking in huge amounts of cash from the licensing. Europe caused Apple to sacrifice this lucrative cash flow.

Requiring games to be playable after support ends is just a minor annoyance that few game companies will have to deal with.

I'm not sure if this has been covered but would what Square did for Kingdom Hearts Union Cross Dark Road be sufficient to be okay with what they're looking for? After shutdown the app maintained records and a very limited amount of functionality for one half of the game (cutscene viewer, character creator, and records viewer) while the other half was mostly playable outside of the ranked mode.

although they later delisted the app entirely so it's not actually available anymore unless you previously downloaded it
