I think there's a non-0 chance Nintendo used AI for some part of the intermission tracks. It's a stupid number of tracks to make, that are all so similar and boring.
This would also explain their bizarre stance on doubling down on them, because corpos are huffing farts on AI genned shit.

It has the highest highs in the series, but the lows are pretty low. When it’s good, it’s really good, but there’s also plenty of moments where it’s not that good. It has the best soundtrack in the series, I’ll give it that. Also I wanna fuck Daisy.

I've never really had a strong opinion on what MK is my favorite despite playing most besides 7, Tour, and Home Circuit. I like World, but I refuse to commit to a strong stance on it until the new factor wears off. Too many people let new toy syndrome color their opinions. I give any new a game a year and a revisit before I can confidently say whether I like it/hate it for what it is rather than the hot new thing. Same with movies or shows.

Nintendo could have prevented this by just making the tracks more narrow. I hate that they keep increasing the road width every time they add more racers. They should keep the SAME road width with more racers to increase competition and chaos. It would punish sandbaggers by making it much harder to push from last place to first place in such a short distance, there would be a big incentive to get ahead early and stay ahead of all the chaos. It would also increase the skill needed to perform well by tightening up racing lines and giving less wiggle room.

I've been playing Wii Deluxe lately and I hate how drifting feels compared to the other games.

Unironically I prefer Tour to the actual mainline titles. The gacha mechanics are kinda shitty of course, but the pace of the game feels so much better when:
1. Triple item boxes and the frenzy mechanic let you spam stuff
2. The races don't tend to take as long, just 2 laps each
3. Insane variety, like more than World due to all the variants on tracks
4. Very importantly the focus on "Score" makes every second of the race matter, you want to collect the coins and get the drifts even if you're already in 1st because score matters

That's on top of little things like the IRL locations being soul, and the variety in drivers/karts/gliders being unmatched (because it's a gacha but still). I was hoping they'd have a sidemode with the score system but alas.

the game isn't supposed to be a super sweaty nerdfest. casuals love hidden stats because it means they don't need to study or stare at walls of boring shit, they just pick the things that look good. There are invisible stats because they shake up the game subtlely with things like worse players sometimes lucking into wins through their advantages, without making the game too nerdy. If you're a spreadsheet nerd then study that shit online, it doesn't belong visible within the game.

Incredibly based. I'm a similar deal, but there are rare instances where if a game can have notably good moments that stand out while interspersing the game with legitimately fun/challenging segments, it hastens the time it takes for me to see the game as a net positive.

someone mentioned Mario Kart Wii Deluxe in one of these threads a short time ago and holy shit, there's so many fucking tracks on this I don't know if I can get through them all

Except it doesn't. Even if the room was full of casuals and no metafags, the races decided by items majority of the time. Hidden stats play little to no part in shaking up subtle advantages there.
Hidden stats matter more for the sweaty nerds who know every shortcut and know how to best drift and trick instead of relying on items. The subtle advantage of hidden stats matters then. And obviously in timetrials but who cares about those

Look at pokemon too, they have hidden stats called IVs and EVs which casuals don't care/know about. In the games they don't matter at all single player, it's when you vs a sweatlord with max IV/EV you'll see the difference and it's a BIG difference. Even the compfags in pokemon agree that it's a shitty mechanic that should've been removed already, as it's very aids to get IVs you want on legendaries without cheating

Just tried going back to MK8DX after a couple weeks of World and WOW that game feels unplayable now. World is too good I can’t adjust backwards.
