PMD remake was "only" 5 years ago which is nothing in modern gamedev terms
but the real answer is that proper spinoffs don't make as much money as mobile slot machines

Because they're expensive to produce compared to mobile slop.
Used to be easily affordable when spinoffs were on low-power handhelds with cheap cartridges and battle sims on console, but once the time came to move along to the likes of 3DS and Switch, the returns stopped being worth it compared to getting a dedicated following of whales on your latest iteration of a mobile staple, which can then be ported to a Nintendo platform anyway.
