It forgets to give the players and actual interesting hook, a desire to look into what's actually going on, and forgetting to make what you get when you look deeper actually have substance. Also because Alex basically controls his world, you don't have anything to ground the work in either besides Alex. Alex is a shitty person but that doesn't make him interesting because he's just verbose because that's what he thinks makes him smart, but how is that entertaining? How does this make us care about Alex? It doesn't. He's just boring. If the work revolves around a boring person, and there's no interesting world around him, then it's a boring work.
Of course this is on top of it being a mediocre game to game to actually play (I.V) or a completely terrible one (OG).
