last time i played was shadowlands. i played frost mage which was considered the worst dps spec, yet i knew every fight inside and out and could easily maximise my dps, making me typically the 1st 2nd or 3rd top dps even when we were mythic raiding. i had all 15s in mythic+ done for the mount. the hardest part was convincing people to take me over a fire mage (got rejected all the time)

Wow is an ancient boomer mmo for grandpa. Back then the virtual world social aspect and roleplaying was more important than cringe esport button mashing and theorycrafting.

Some mmorpgs still had good endgame balance despite of this, because one could offer player to player services. In Anarchy Online, 1 year older than WoW, that would include crafting items, casting buffs, offering fast transport, selling gear for twinking, powerlvling services, clearing dungeons with twinks.
Moreover one had meaningful world pvp where factions could take control of lands, take over cities, and get faction bonuses for being in control (such as exp boosts).

WoW has basically none of this, or rather, only in the most soulless, stripped down retarded way.

The problem isn't class balance it's epeening beyond M10. When you infinitely scale content you scale disparities until any small outcome difference becomes larger. It's piss poor design philosophy and is frying people's brains with paranoia around theoretical meta set ups. RPGs should never be designed that way. The chart should stop at M10.
