Wait, Annabelle was the person who spared Clive's life at the end of the Demo. If she wanted him dead, she could have done it there.

If there's some reason why everything happened the way it did and it turns out it was Ultima, I'm not explicitly aware of it. But I doubt it would fix every problem I saw with the narrative. And there's a lot more.
Like how Annabelle pulled off her betrayal when she offered nothing of value or why Sanbreque would want to betray its ally by decapitating its leadership, when immediately after the events of Phoenix Gate, Sanbreque did not take over Rosaria. Instead the Ironblood invade, sack Rosalith, kill all the men, enslave all the girls/women, and THEN were pushed out of Rosaria by Sanbreque. And it wasn't like they wanted to depopulate the area to move in their own people, because it was left in ruins for years.

How? How do you take out a Dominant before they transform? They're weapons of mass destruction. Literally superhero level power. But even if she was chained up in Crystal Fetters that inhibited her powers, why would the Ironblood need to do that? They're using hostages to force Jill to fight for them. Hostages she can see and hostages back in the Iron Kingdom. All the women/girls that were enslaved when the Ironblood sacked Rosalith. She has no choice but to fight. But that's far from the dumbest part of that whole scene.
Clive, First Shield of Rosaria, has unique powers given to him by the one and only Dominant of the Phoenix. NO ONE ELSE ON EARTH HAS THE SAME MAGICAL POWERS. And Clive THROWS WINGS OF FIRE INTO JILLS FACE AND SHE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THEM. And that's just the first stupid part of that scene.
