The increased hp and wound resistance also probably has a lot to do with it. Multiplayer hunts used to be just permaflinch-trip-focus strike and they never get to attack much if at all.

Yeah, I was pretty stumped on that too. And the Khezu AOE shock kept getting me.
Steve's double swipe also gave me some problems too. I usually got hit by the first one and it would do 60% and guaranteed bleed. He'd do the second swipe while I was standing up and we'd both be on neutral roughly the same time. Then he starts his next sequence and I either die from getting hit again or die from bleed.
