They charge $80 for unfinished games that cost another $150 for the complete package, so people started playing old games which are way cheaper and coincidentally also better. Plus indie games. Something like 12,000 video games release every year and over 90% of them are less than $20 with a significant number being free.

I think they're pulling the usaid type scam. The get into a studio, raise a bunch of funds from investors, then syphon it out to third party contractors that they get kick backs from. Tank the company then sell out the assets from underneath. Then those execs fail upwards to a new studio. It HAS to be by design or these people would never find work again yet they always money branch without even a delay.

Well I kind of envy the youth. As a teen I had money problems so I really had to look around to get some money for a new game. Now you can buy tons of games that are like 10 bucks a pop that are great add to that Gamepass, epic free games and Amazon giving away 20 games each month end there's no real reason to spend real money for vidya as a young one.
But as a 36 yo who's married and has a kid, I have tons of money but I also have tons of experience in vidya, so you can bet your ass I'm buying Danky Kang day one.
Game for me and in a few years game for my kid. I really believe people like me are a big part why "high end" console gaming is dying and nintendo is making more then ever.

Even at my new job, my manager told me I should bring my switch on lazy days at work. He just assumed I had a switch. He also has a switch he brings to work, but my younger co-workers play f2p phone games

For example
MNC join server play for hours leave whenever I want. Players come and go autobalance does its job.
SMNC forced teams. People leave and are never replaced. If you leave yourself you get banned for 50 years.
Embarrassing state of affairs.

The past five or so years have been the years in which I have bought the most recent games that aren't on a steep sale. However I am neither young, or American. Most of said purchases have been indie games, or games with a max price of 50โ‚ฌ on launch. I will be making an exception this year, for Anno 117, but only because the dev diaries show the Devs are sticking to their vision and 1800 was a great game. I think there's a lot of really great games going around if you're part of a specific market niches. Especially if you're into managing, wargames, puzzles, or horror. But if you're the kind of guy that only likes genres that NEED to be in the mainstream's spotlight, in order to get enough sales to pay off development, then I can see why you wouldn't be buying any games. Microsoft has a treasure trove of IPs that it could remaster and port, but it just pumps out pure garbage instead. I have been waiting for a shooter like Medal of Honour Pacific Assault, but instead all there is on the market is sliding simulators with Nicky Minaj skins on guns or whatever. I can see why some kid who just wants to play a shooter with his friends would stick to a F2P game in those circumstances.

The only games I bought full price this year were Monster Hunter Wilds (lol I know) and Expedition 33 but only because it was $50. Everything else I've played i either got, "free," with an online service or on a massive sale. Games are way too expensive and janky to buy on Day 1 anymore. I might get Ghost of Yotei full price since I'm really looking forward to that game, but even that one I don't really feel the need to get it day 1 and would rather wait for the sale.

The industry focused on live service to the point everyone has a "forever" game they will play for ten years, ignoring the rest of the market until the devs push a game-ruining update.
As for games that aren't tied to the idea of continuous updates, there's decades of old games that are cheaper and often better than what gets released today. People aren't going to buy the latest here unless it's truly exceptional or has some quality that turned it into a cultural sensation.

shit's bloated beyond repair.
teams now have so many non-developer jobs that it increases the price of development. Gone is the era you could find mid-budgeted games by small teams. Big names like Ubislop, Crapcom and Cucknami won't sell games unless they're 60gb fully voice acted RTX lagfests with gameplay of the depth of a puddle. Long gone are mega man, god hand, spin offs like metal gear acid and prince of persia, goldeneye and doom. ID could develop the revolutionary fps genre in a basement with passionate code monkeys, now small teams just do weak shit (pokemon, minecraft)

Most stand up comedians are either unfunny rogan boys, crowd workers, or the rare few that can do literally anything but videogames. You don't want games written by standup comedians.

A graphics card costs 400 dollars for 8GB which is useless. For the last 6 years these 8GB cards have dominated the market despite being 1080p and VRAM starved. The next range are 12-16GB cards which are 600-800 dollars. A prebuilt computer with an 8GB card costs over 1000 dollars. For a simple RTX 60 class, that's highway robbery. PC gaming is so fucked lol.

Games are just better when they're social experiences. Turns out expecting people to sit in front of a skinner box for hundreds of hours, stops working when they're able to have some approximation of a human interaction.
