They had a chance to mount a comeback during the late 2010s with the One x. The problem is that all of their studio acquisitions turned out to be pointless because they never made any games worth playing.

the xbox x is physically the best console, great form factor and power
the gamepass service is great value for consumers, specially families who buy the thing for kids get great value and variety of games for many people without investing hundreds of dollars into software

I dont really know what the thought process of people opt for sony/nintendo over it really is.

Think about it. Microsoft gives up exclusives and puts them on steam. Sony follows suit. Eventually owning a PC will be too good of a deal and consoles will die out. Microsoft acquires Valve, consolidates the gaming market. While at the same time increasing the PC market.
All the dumbfuck moves they have made start to make sense when you look at the bigger picture.
Obviously for the consumer this will be a disaster if this ever happens

Investors are pissed at Microsoft for missing the AI boat and their relationship with OpenAI is sinking as Meta keeps poaching all of their talent. Gaming's getting gutted and Xbox is about to become Microsoft Gaming before they eventually get rid of that too.
