>>714463458it doesn't matter, they did a dogshit job of it regardless. first they have the only qunari in the first game explicitly tay out that none of this exists in their culture. he is scandalized to see a woman wearing armor and going into combat, because women are homekeepers and men are fighters, end of story.
then they totally reverse this in Inquisition, and invent the concept aqun athlok, a thai style third gender and actually everybody's totally cool with it and doesn't put any normal social expectations on that group, and this hasn't completely undermined their rigid caste and duty based system at all.
/then/ they have this hag in veilguard totally reject /that/ identity and instead, as far as we can tell, just invent the concept of non-binary on the spot for herself, and get offended when other qunari equate it to aqun athlok.
throughout this entire series, the writers have never respected their own canon or continuity. I remember when 2 came out, and despite the fact that you could kill off certain characters in the first game,
they just decided that some of them will be back in the second one anyway, and you're just gonna have to deal with it. they were very snarky about the whole thing on the forums, as I recall the writer in question said something to the effect of "too bad, it's my story, not yours"
