First of all, fortnite cant be ran on linux specifically because of EAC and specifically because they don’t want to reconfigure EAC to work on linux. There are EAC games that work there. And it will be easily modded when the game goes dead and the hosted servers will just disable the EAC checks. Second, running shit in the VM is secure because the virtual system has an extremely controlled access to actual system through the VM api. Third, running in VM is a worst case scenario, you usually want to mod for compatibility with modern systems instead.

Going to be honest Anon, I'm not really sure what more needs to be explained. Mods and private servers have been created without source code for an array of games in the past. I don't think anybody needs to launch into an essay on how coding works to explain anything. Devs releasing server codes would go a long way, that doesn't neccesarrily require source code though this is a case by case basis that would likely become less of a thing depending on how a the law is worded.
Nobody can predict how this will all go down, the dynamics at play once a regulation is in place, or all the edge cases we will find ourselves in. There isn't even a guarantee a law/regulation will be put in place once the petition is submitted.

Dead game implies that a company is not selling it anymore. In fact with a proper EOS patch that doesn’t need any fuckery and just implements always offline/community servers, the company can continue to sell the game instead of not selling it because the official servers were turned off
