Is borderlands 4 gonna redeem the borderlands franchise?
>>714470780 (OP)How much did Randy murder his own games sales?
Borderlands doesn't need redeeming, they are amongst the best fps games.
Playing TTW and enjoying it. BL4 looks like it is going to be really good from the gameplay they have shown so far.

>>714472069FPS as a genre just went f2p mainly. Looter Shooters are an offshoot that you can still charge money for.
but Randy understands it's appeal is couch co-op for when you ragequit whatever live service battle royale, hero shooter, or tactical shooter. So they put the game at 95% off knowing that one friend will buy 4x copies at like $3.99 a copy and guilt their friends into doing a playthrough.
What they've shown so far looks pretty good and I've heard they've dialled down a lot of the cringe humour of 3 so I'm kinda optimistic.
>>714470780 (OP)>90 shekels pricetagkek, lmao, lol even.
>>714470780 (OP)How about another magic trick Randy?
I doubt it. I'm playing through the series right now and so far:
BL1 was pretty boring at best and horribly tedious at worst. The DLC is absolutely abysmal. They barely made any content, removed fast travel to pretend like there's more than there actually is, and just like the main game it just fizzles out. All in all it starts fine and has a nice art style and strangely strong worldbuilding for what it is, but the game drags on for too long and gets worse as it goes on. Not a single exciting moment in the entire game.
BL2 improves some little things, makes other things worse, but the writing and humor are immediately more in my face and the jokes are grating and not funny. So as early as BL2 the series becomes Reddit and it never looks back.
Still working my way through it, but I don't know what they could do in 4 to "redeem" this series. It's too late and the series didn't have a strong start anyway.
>>714472743Try BL3 or TTW.
>>714470780 (OP)Not with 2 DRMs at once!
Borderlands honestly doesnโt deserve success, but somehow every other attempt at the genre is either so wildly different that it attracts a completely different audience, is so complete garbage.
When Destiny 1 was announced it was seen by people as โthe borderlands killerโ because sci fi looter shooter made by Bungie would obviously beat Bl2 in every possible metric. And Destiny sure felt nicer than Borderlands to play. But everything else Bungie did (and continued to do for next decade) was just bafflingly insane and very few Borderlands fans became longterm Destiny fans, because being a Destiny fan required being ok with getting robbed blind and having DLCโs stolen from you by Bungie, and paying exorbitant prices for yearly expansions.
โDiablo but itโs a first person shooterโ is such a good idea for successful video game. But apparently itโs a lot harder than it sounds because Gearbox is only dev who even kinda succeeded, and their games are full of problems.
>>714472851I'm looking forward to Tiny Tina's Wonderland, but I never hear anything good about BL3 even from fans of the series ... which does make me curious as to what it did that lost its diehard fans.
>>714470780 (OP)>Second best selling FPS franchise defeated by COD>Sold more copies than Battlefield >Borderlands 3 itself sold 15 million copies and was given away for free which would entice people to buy DLCsThe only reason why Randy is even trying with this one is out of pure passion and getting kicked in the balls with side projects like the fuck ass movie and New Tales.
Borderlands will always be fun to play and being one of the few co-op friendly games is enough to make it relevant and sitting right next to Call Of Duty
>>714473154BL3 improved so many small things even the weapons are crazier than ever but they drop legendaries very often and the story is just bad. It's kinda crazy to see a dialogue skipper mod being so popular because the writing is just that bad, the humor isn't even the issue the tone is what they got wrong. The story never took itself seriously unlike 2 where it stopped cracking jokes in the final 6 hours or so
I just hope it's not a clusterfuck of performance issues like 3 was on release.
The game still crashes on me pretty regularly.
BL3 was so bad, even coop was extremely boring.
>>714473154I think most people just have nostalgia over BL2. I played BL2 before playing BL2 and I think it's much better. People say the writing and humor is worse but I found it better than the other games.
TTW is fun, the fantasy setting is really good and the writers are definitely D&D players and know a lot about D&D. Did a fun side quest yesterday called The Ditcher which is themed around The Witcher with a npc called Garret of Triva.

>>714477019Yeah I loved nothing more than being forced to carry a debuffing weapon to deal any kind of damage to the damage sponge enemies starting with BL2. Really fun, just great.
>>714477019There comes a point where the writing can be so bad that it actively detracts from the gameplay, and it's not like you can just skip it. The game forces you to engage with its story. There is no "arcade mode."

>>714486628>>714486841If they are including all of pic related they are being straight up disingenuous. Because spreading 93m total franchise sales across a dozen titles is extremely weak. Especially including bundles, re-releases and deep discounts.

>>714487457>If they are including all of pic related they are being straight up disingenuous. That's what a franchise is.
>Especially including bundles, re-releases and deep discounts.FPS games only sell at full price to a very niche community outside of Call of Duty. It's a multiplayer first genre, and the mutliplayer industry became live service.

>>714488039Yeah. And that's the worst part about it? It doesnt really change the way you interact with the game at all. A level 12 machine gun is functionally the same as a level 41. I've never gotten the popularity of these games at all. At least in Diablo if you get a legendary it can do something besides chain lightning plus 2%
>>714488486>If I told you the mario videogame franchise has sold over 900million copies you're not going to somehow think it's disingenous to include every spinoff with Mario characters in it right?Well no because Mario is in a different league. That's the source on the 93 million number, it's from take 2's quarterly presentation.

>>714486157>>714486401What's really funny about this is that when they had the live play session a couple weeks ago one of the streamers entered the audio menu and found that they added both a dedicated volume slider for just Claptrap, and audio volume and TRIMMING settings for literally all form of voice audio in the entire game. Presumable, you can now set the audio trim to just immediately skip any of the dialogue you just do not want to hear talking. If adjusting the trim also makes it so the game stops going on pause to hear the next NPC's standup routine that's honestly pretty based of Gearbox to do (even if its just taking one of the most popular mods for BL3 and just making it a core feature in the next game.)
>>714490102>Especially since they are listing Tiny Tina separately.Tiny Tina's is the most recent existing title in the franchise that they are highlighting the fact it brought many new players into the Borderland franchise
Meanwhile Borderlands 4 is an upcoming IP that releases during this upcoming quarter and they're highlighting the high sales of the last two mainline games.
They don't need to spend valuable slide space spelling out the number of titles in the franchise because that is readily available information to anyone that would organically consume that slide, where as the most up to date sales figures are not.
>>714490406Well no, i wasn't making any factual statements.
>>714490581>valuable slide spacefor 17 characters?
If it was up to i would want a separate pdf with a detailed graph of not only total copies sold but showing which title on what platform in what timespan. Like BL1 X units on PS3 in the first 8 weeks after release etc. I would want that level of transparency in all financial reports from every publisher.
>>714490581 Honestly, it's wild how much mental gymnastics people do over a pie chart in a corporate slide. It's not designed for Reddit-tier lore autists to dissect, it's for investors to skim while eating their 4th catered bagel of the morning. No one in that room is thinking "Wait a minute, does this 93M include The Pre-Sequel???" They're thinking "Is Gearbox still printing money or not?" Like bro, if you need a footnote after every bullet point just to sleep at night, maybe investor slides arenโt for you.
>>714473404>The only reason why Randy is even trying with this one>pure passionHe LITERALLY buttered the community up by insinuating the game would be $80 and "appeased" all the backlash that got by "only" raising the price to $70.
The only reason Randy exists is greed to fuel his jailbait and piss fetishes.
Pre-Sequel would be the best one if it had one or two DLCs. I wish there was a mod scene, but GB had to ruin their game 10 years later.

Guys. I tried to playthrough Borderlands 1 recently and it was not fun. The Main Story is fine and Ned's Zombie Island is okay. But the others are pure fucking garbage. Fuck. I am completely demoralized from playing 2. The base game is still a solid 7/10 but the DLCs are so fucking baaaaaaaaaad.
>>7144873961: the podunk hillbilly characters like scooter, tk, and ellie are actually amusing. zed and marcus are great. only really claptrap is annoying but tolerable. the writing never gets in the way
2: the writing gets more reddit-tier despite jack being a likeable villain. increase in "lol so le random xd" buttstallion lines. swings and misses on emotional beats with mordecai's bird and jack's "i hate my dad" daughter moments, killing roland for shock value. the overall tone is noticeably more goofy and estrogenated but not overbearing
3: every character is now a saturday morning cartoon character. every other line is meta-ironic self-aware mcu humor. no one feels like a genuine character. every main character is a woman. the story is 100% testosterone free. the villains don't land. lilith is not as interesting a character as the story wants us to believe that she is. the jokes don't land. the villains don't land. the story makes itself the center of attention and never stops blabbing in your ear.
>>714471940Long time bl1, bl2, presequal fan...still play to this day when i want to pop heads....I pre-ordered the broken (every action seemed retarded ...vending machienes...story selections...), bland, unfunny, shitty story bl3 game with a season pass...1st game i have ever purchased that the season pass didn't contain all the DLC...I will never do that again...I'll pick this one up 2 years from now with all the DLC for 30$ ...it will probably blow anyways....they already said they are not going to add humor (translation pay writters).
>>714473154The thing I disliked about 3 was how Legendaries were basically devalued due to how they essentially replaced blue/purple unique weapons in being mandatory for endgame stuff. Also sidequests and missions don't even show what kind of gear is offered until completion, which I hate.
>>714486157I'm still baffled at how they made the antagonists to be a bunch of streamer twins, and there aren't any missions or sidequests where you get to troll their streams by removing their monetization, giving them a temporal TOS ban, or streamsniping them. They just go and shittalk you on ECHO while you can't do anything until you fight them, which contrasts moments in 2 where you could piss off Jack
It's such a tragedy that they ruin a game with that's extremely fun with annoying garbage. It's like it was done on purpose. The legacy is ruined with shit like this. It shouldn't be impossible to make a game like the first one with everything better.
>>714497439 Imagine defending Randy instead of the actual devs that have to sift through his half-baked sparkle wizard ideas while heโs off doing sleight of hand tricks for Saudi investors. >>714487749Honestly I've been thinking otherwise, I've been following the preview info too and it really does feel like Gearbox has been specifically targeting areas for improvement from the core gameplay sandbox BL3 established. (Also, to give credit, when handling criticism like people saying that combat could feel too chaotic with just the compass to offer situational awareness of where enemies are at and addressing the issue by adding a Halo combat radar to the UI rather than compromising on their vision of not having a full mini-map to let players focus on the world and less on the UI shows a capacity to listen to what customers are saying and finding a good solution that both solves the deeper issue those players were expressing without just compromising on their own creative vision.)
To me, even with that ability to just trim out the dialogue if you hate it, I still do not have faith that the writing will not be annoying like it has been becoming since BL3, and I'm more worried that the amount of polish being poured into BL4 is because Take-Two is trying to position BL4 as a pseudo-live service to finally take a stab at it when to me I feel the strength BL has had as a franchise compared to titles like Destiny has been the fact that it's never been a live service, meaning they get the chance to properly iterate on their formula rather than being locked into technical debt like Destiny where the engine is so ass and dated that it's a struggle to add something as simple as a fucking ping system to a game that wants to make FPS Zelda dungeons and call them raids.
>>714504998You don't need to start a new game for Mayhem mode.

>>714504678Any of them. Gunplay (aka the only thing that matters) in Borderlands was always DOGSHIT
>>714506468What? Gunplay is literally one of the best things about BL. Unless you want realistic gunplay?

since it cant even cap a thread

The skill trees in 4 are a mixed bag, some look actually really good but others are stinkers. Ultimately might end up playing but going to wait at least a week to make sure there isn't a rugpull.

I tried getting back into 3 and was once again unprepared for how often you're forced to listen to characters talk while you can do nothing. Even the DLC doesn't respect your time. If 4 stops doing this I'll be happy to buy.

>>714501174NTA, but sometimes. Some sequences depend on when the dialogue finishes, and some depend on when an animation is finished.
It still makes the game far more enjoyable in the long run, though.
>>714508997the franchise selling 93million copies means it sold 93million copies by the end of Q2 2025.
Those numbers aren't what is being bullshat.
>>714496581I hated the writing in BL2 so much that i haven't even touched any of the games or DLC that followed. I only assume that the other games are at least just as bad and it seems i'm correct.
>>714471140Been playing through BL3 and while the story is atrocious, the gameplay is great. Moze is probably the most fun vault hunter i've played over all the games.
It feels like they're finally toning down the LOL RANDUMB XD humor, which has always been the biggest problem about the series for me. Redemption is possible desu.
